POP CULTURE NEWS (A FUNNY LADY, CHRISTMAS MOVIE + MORE): EDITION FIVE
Hello, everyone. Back on this end-of-the-week Friday to share more pop culture edition five news. This week there’s nothing drastic, but it’s fun nonetheless. Although I do have to amend my statement and say, one of these things I’m VERY excited for, and if you’ve read this space much, you’ll guess the “what.”
LIST | POP CULTURE NEWS (‘NCIS’ SHOCKER + MORE): EDITION FOUR
There’s Christmas movie mentions, new movies, actor “retirements” and the return of a fan favorite character. All of this we talk about below, so here we go. Let’s discover the news-y things.
POP CUTLURE NEWS EDITION FIVE
1: CHRISTMAS MOVIE CASTING
POP CULTURE NEWS (A FUNNY LADY, CHRISTMAS MOVIE + MORE): EDITION FIVE #POPCULTURE #CHRISTMASMOVIES #CANDACECAMERONBURE #HALLMARKIES #SMALLVILLE #XOKITTY #RYANREYNOLDS Share on XThis news has been out there for a while, but I’ve never mentioned it, so I thought I would just because. This year, on Hallmark Channel, Candace Cameron Bure is, of course, returning for a Christmas flick and her co-star? Well, it’s John Brotherton, who is her former Fuller House co-star (and the one they she doesn’t end up with, right?). Needless to say after loving his character and their banter, I’m glad to see him on the network. Sounds like a fun one, right?
(And the plot, I think, will even be a kind of play on Fuller House in a reunion romance.)
2: THE BELOVED RED-HEADED FUNNY LADY GETS AN AMAZON BIOPIC
This past week, Amazon Video dropped some promotional material for their biopic about Lucille Ball. Nicole Kidman stars as the woman known for making people laugh, alongside Javiar Bardem as Desi Arnaz, starring in the film which is called Being the Ricardos.
I’ve never watched the show I Love Lucy but I know lots of people love it, and early impressions suggest this may be something I watch. The film describes itself as a biography that presents the lead characters with a challenge that threatens their professional lives as well as a personal one that threatens their marriage. Aaron Sorkin directs the film set to be on Prime December 21.
3: HIATUS FOR RYAN REYNOLDS?
After completing filming his last film, Reynolds took to Instagram to say he’s going on a “sabbatical” from filmmaking. Lots of publications picked this up as if it’s real, and while I’m not saying it isn’t, I’m also curious, do we really think this is a real thing? Reynolds is known for his humor and often putting things out that we have to take as a joke. If they’re not, well, he’s not a nice dude.
4: FAVORITE SUPERHERO TURNS 20
Rumor has it the WB’s Smallville celebrated 20 years this past week. I’ve never seen the show, and in fact don’t think I’ve even watched an episode, which is unusual. Normally I’ve seen an episode or two of the famous teen shows, as is the case with things like Friday Night Lights (which I don’t care for) and Dawson’s Creek.
5: RETURN TO SANDITON
March 2 is the return date to Sanditon on PBS. Season two was announced last year with some, but not all of its cast returning. Theo James is not coming back and while I haven’t seen season one (do I need to?) and lots of people HATE his character, I also hate when writers have us fall in love with a romance (or if you hate him, not) only to then ruin all of that angst and the investment we put in. Dear writers, it’s annoying.
6: XO, KITTY
The rumors are true! Netflix is spinning off To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before with XO, Kitty, a series following youngest Covey sister, Kitty and her loves. Jenny Han has the announcement on her Instagram page. To be honest, much as I adore Kitty, I’m not sure this is necessary. I’m fangirl concerned they may ruin some of what we loved about TATB. That said, I’m still going to check this out and hope this doesn’t happen so that I can enjoy Kitty’s story. Do you think we’ll see some of the TATB characters now and then?
BONUS! MORE GHOSTS-LY HAUNTINGS
CBS ordered a full season of their new comedy Ghosts. I’ve watched two episodes, and while I don’t love the show, it does have a sweet-ish charm.
There we go! There’s a few pop culture-y news stories for another week. Did you see any of these? What are your thoughts on them? Do you like any of them – or do any make you mad? Will you be watching Being the Ricardos or do you really think Reynolds is going on sabbatical? Comment all the comments!
Thank you for visiting! Please do come back soon.
I was so pleased to hear that Ghosts was picked up for a whole season. It’s a lot of fun. One of these days I need to watch the original BBC show.
Glad you’re enjoying it, Lauren! I like it well enough, I’m just not sure I’m “all in” yet. :)
