POP CULTURE NEWS: EDITION SEVEN IS ABOUT ALL TOO WELL, ‘THE HATING GAME’ + MORE!

by

Hey, there! Back for another Friday edition of Pop Culture News Edition Seven!! Hard to believe it’s been seven weeks already, but this has been fun. I like the idea of having something specific at least one day a week and knowing the content of that day as well as the discipline angle of making sure I post this every week. But enough of that, today, there’s news!

LIST | POP CULTURE NEWS: EDITION SIX (UPCOMING MOVIES AND GAC NEWS!)

So down below there’s fun news, and “controversial” news; movie news and because this is me, yes, there’s news that will send Swifties into fits of glee. Let’s jump in!

POP CUTLURE NEWS: EDITION SEVEN

1: DRAMA FOR THE PRATT FAMILY

Fans on Twitter or Instagram or wherever are debating whether or not Chris Pratt’s recent post complementing and honoring his wife, Katherine, is a slap to ex, Anna Faris. In the post, Pratt thanks Katherine for his “healthy” daughter, which fans take issue with given that the son he shares with Faris had numbers health issues as a newborn.

For me personally, I think this is WAY overblown and one of those, move on kind of situations. I don’t see it as a “dig” at his ex or son, but rather gratitude for what he and his wife Katherine are building. This doesn’t mean that he loves his son less or that it’s something aimed at Anna. If it is, it would imply that he blames her for his son’s illness and that would make him a man who doesn’t deserve to be a father.

2: GLEE STAR TO ROMANCE LINDSAY LOHAN

Earlier this year (or was it last?), Netflix announced Lindsay Lohan would be starring in a Christmas film (likely not releasing until ’22 or ’23) about an heiress who develops amnesia and is cared for by a lodge owner. We now know Chord Overstreet will play her co-star.

3: SEE THE TRAILER FOR THE HATING GAME

The popular romance novel that was quite the sensation has a film adaptation, and this past week, its trailer for the December 2021 release dropped! The novel is The Hating Game, and loosely the Sally Thorne novel is inspired by Pride & Prejudice in the hate to love trope. Lucy Hale co-stars in a film that once had Robbie Amell co-starring but is replaced by Austin Stowell.

I haven’t read the novel, but I’m curious, what do you think? Is it worth it? Is this trailer good-looking or just so-so? Comment all the comments. I also think this one will likely be slapped with an R-rating.

4: TEN MINUTES OF ALL TOO WELL

Today on GMA, Taylor made the announcement that she’d be releasing a short film called All Too Well that will, likely, be the ten minute story of the full length version she is set to drop in her Red (Taylor’s Version) re-release this coming Friday the 12th. I honestly don’t get the hype around this 10 minute song, but hey, I guess that just means I’m not a “real” Swift fan, and I’m ok with this. I like her music and will continue to listen to it, but I also recognize and know I’m WAY past the age of obsessing over every lyric or clue.

Your turn! Did you see any of these previously? Which ones interest you most? What do you think of Chris Pratt’s post? Taylor’s short film? Comment all of your thoughts below – let’s chat all of the pop culture things!

Thank you for visiting! Please, do come back soon.

  1. Well, The Hating Game movie looks like it could be good, but I’m reserving judgment. I really loved the book and it’s hard to imagine a film doing justice to it.

    1. I could like it too… I just sense it’ll be “more” than PG-13 and sometimes even that rating, for me, tends to add things that are for “shock value” rather than good storytelling. But like you, I’ll see when the time comes closer. I didn’t even read the book and the trailer underwhelmed me given all the praise I read from everyone. :)

  2. I also think that Chris Pratt post got blown way out of proportion. He can be grateful for a healthy daughter now regardless of the issues his son had early on. And I don’t think he meant anything against his ex – people just like to create problems where there are none!

    1. THIS^^ – ALL OF THIS! Love that, Angela. I agree. Just because Chris Pratt mentions a healthy daughter in no way means he’s ungrateful for or doesn’t love his son. I’m sure he does. Also, the more I see of people on social media, the more I’m convinced social media festers this cycle or group of people who aren’t happy unless there’s some kind of “argument” or drama. Makes me sad.
