POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FOURTEEN: A QUICK CHRISTMAS EVE EDITION

by

Hey, there! So glad you stopped in. Welcome back to another edition of ‘Pop Culture News Edition Fourteen.’ I have to say, I’m the tiniest bit impressed with myself that I’ve kept this up for fourteen weeks. I’ll be real, I pretty much decided to go ahead and skip this week because a: no one will care, and b: there’s very little traffic these days anyway. But then the part of me that’s all about discipline (of following through) just couldn’t quiet that little voice that said, you must! So here we are.

LIST | MEETING ST. NICK! A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE FICTIONAL MEN IN RED

Keeping this short and sweet this week because sometimes that’s the only way to go. Let’s do this!

POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FOURTEEN

Beware there are spoilers below.

1: GHOSTLY RETURN

Full disclaimer, I haven’t watched a single episode of the When Calls the Heart spin off When Hope Calls. Perhaps because I have nit-picking issues with its predecessor but whatever the case, I haven’t seen it. However, new network GAC must have some rights to the recently dormant spin off show because they aired a two part Christmas special. During which a pair of former ‘Heart’ co-stars made returns. One is Lori Loughlin, and the other Daniel Lissing, whom many now as the now deceased and beloved Mountie Jack Thornton.

Beware of spoilers!

According to spoiler articles, Lissing’s return was to reprise his role as Thornton. In the role he appears to Loughlin’s Abigail, who also happens to share a history of friendship with his wife, Elizabeth, asking her to let Elizabeth know he’s happy for her and wants her to move on. While this also may suggest Loughlin will make a return to Hallmark’s upcoming When Calls the Heart season, this also feels very off-brand and almost… silly, for this show. What are your thoughts?

2: MORE MARVEL
Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel released its teaser for the May 2022 addition in the Doctor Strange universe. This one will feature Dr. Strange, of course, and apparently a pretty big arc for Scarlet in a kind of follow up to her arc in WandaVision. Not a lot is known about this one, but according to the cast list (thus far), it looks like most of the big names from the first film will return. I’m really hoping this one goes back to some of the more old school Marvel tactics, because the newer stuff just doesn’t “feel” good.

3: NETFLIX ROMCOMS?

This past week, Netflix released a promotional poster for an upcoming January 2022 original called The Royal Treatment. The plot reads “New York hairdresser Izzy seizes the chance to work at the wedding of a charming prince, but when sparks between them fly, will love or duty prevail?” This one will feature Laura Marano and be produced by her along with her sister and other family. I’m here for this one (as it sounds so far) and hoping it’ll be more of a traditional romantic-comedy, and if so, I hope it’s the start of possible good romantic comedies from Netflix. Mena Massoud will co-star, who happens to be Disney’s live-action Aladdin.

  1. I’m looking forward to the new Doctor Strange movie! We’re a bit behind on our Marvel movies since we haven’t gone to the theater in so long, but hopefully we’ll catch up soon!

    1. I’m SO far behind on any newer Marvel movies. Don’t know that I’ll bother with some of them since I don’t hear the best reports on them. But I am curious about this one. Always liked the Dr. Strange character. :)
