POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FIFTY-NINE: THE ONE WHERE CELEBS ARE CANDID

Welcome back, readers! We’re ready for a new edition of entertainment news as it’s Friday and this is our tradition so to speak. Let’s take a dive into the Internet (never my favorite thing to do) and see what’s happening in the now not-so-glamourous world of Hollywood. pop culture news edition fifty-nine

I randomly found two things that are more on topics I like to have perspective on and chat about. Of course, there is news about television shows and various other things too. However, if I had to pick, I prefer stories that have some conversation starters with them. Let’s start talking, shall we?

POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FIFTY-NINE

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY PARTY FALL OUT

Sigh. There is still conversation about the birthday party of Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney’s mother. The theme was a play on a popular political slogan plus there was a guest that had a thin blue line shirt. This received all kinds of attention and social media outrage. To me, this is ridiculous. Let the girl and her mother live and enjoy the party. Just because they did this doesn’t mean their politics lean right. It doesn’t mean their politics lean left. It means they’re having fun and can maybe enjoy time with people of opposing beliefs. ALL OKAY.

In the immediate aftermath, she put out a tweet that read:

You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!

Kind, straightforward and yet addresses the “controversy.” Recently Sweeney was interviewed by GQ where the subject of her headline making turns comes up. In regard to this August event she says, “Honestly I feel like nothing I say can help the conversation. It’s been turning into a wildfire and nothing I can say will take it back to the correct track.” She’s right. I also don’t agree with other things she says in this interview, but this I do. Further on, the article says that in telling the story means “feeding a narrative” that Sweeney isn’t able to control. The writer goes on to note that Sweeney doesn’t mind being interviewed, but it’s the wondering which lines will make this piece that affect her. Presumably she means she worries or wonders which answers that she gives will the author use and honestly reflect.

She also says, to end this paragraph, “I’ll see people say, ‘She needs to get media training’. Why, do you want to see a robot? I don’t think there’s any winning.” To end, the question is posed whether she reads comments, and her reply is, “Sadly, yes.”

Girl is right again. There just aren’t wins in these scenarios.

JENNIFER ANISTON GETS CANDID

In a recent interview with Allure, Jennifer Aniston is sharing things in an interview that I think is billed as a kind of story that reveals a lot of things about her. She talks about how she tried to have a baby, and Hollywood. Namely that Hollywood is dying and there’s no “glamour” anymore. Honestly, I don’t agree with a lot of what these movie star celebrities say and always wonder if what they’re saying is for attention or something two months later, they’re going to take back. However, this idea that Hollywood is dying and there’s no glamour is one I completely agree with. You just have to look at photos of award show fashion to question everything.

Additionally in this Allure interview, she talks about social media and that a response of “hate” for social media. Girl, I relate. However, reading the article reveals, she doesn’t mean it exactly how I would. She says that she’s not “good” at it and this is her reasoning. Seems silly to hate something for that reason. Furthermore, she says she’s “really happy that we got to experience growing up, being a teenager, being in our 20s without this social media aspect.” This I do agree with.

LAST THINGS

Taylor Swift adds 17 shows to her 2023 eras tour, which you can learn about through her website. Will you be going?

Hunter King joins the Hallmark vs GAC TV movie “wars” and signs a multi picture deal with Hallmark. You may know her from films like Hidden Gems or Nikki and Nora, plus she’ll star in a 2022 Christmas movie, too.

Lindsay Lohan’s comeback movie, Falling for Christmas, dropped yesterday. Will you be watching?

The Judy Blume novel Forever is to be adapted by Netflix. Never read this one, but is anyone curious about this?

This has been in the news for a long time, but I think I’ve consistently forgotten to mention it! Did you see that, because of a copyright thing, characters like Winnie the Pooh aren’t Disney exclusive now. This means that another studio has produced a HORROR film using Winnie the Pooh and his friends as villains…! HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT THIS?! My childhood nostalgia feelings are not ok, this is for sure.

CW is undergoing a lot of change with new executives and all sorts of things I don’t get. but another casualty of these changes is the possibly that only one or two shows currently airing will survive! Which two would you fight to keep going?

Sean Penn gave a political headline maker his Oscar this week, and honestly am I the only one that found this weird?

Ashley Tisdale will headline a single camera comedy with CBS called Brutally Honest, which is semi-autobiographical about her own life.

February 19 will mark the return of Magnum P.I. The former CBS show was saved by fan’s enthusiasm when the network cancelled it only for NBC to pick it up.

PS: Not pop culture news exactly, but since we last put together one of these, I saw Ticket to Paradise. Guys, THIS is the type of movie I want to see more of. THIS is the type of movie that brings us closer to the old Hollywood style. Not can we just have a hundred more of these, please! pop culture news edition fifty-nine

Did you see either one of our “stories” this week? How about our random add ons? Which entertainment stories did you see? Which ones did you think were fun or not-so-fun?! I want to chat up all the things! Let’s talk.

  1. Not that it’s anyone’s business, but I was surprised by Jennifer Aniston’s reveal about IVF. I feel bad if she felt like she had to reveal it, although obviously this happened years ago.

    1. I didn’t know any of that either or why it matters now. Unless there’s people questioning why she doesn’t have kids? I don’t know. Sometimes I wonder what celebrities are saying that’s honest and kind of “in the moment” vs what they’re saying that’s been prepped and pre-planned for headlines or to try to be someone others can relate to.
