Hey, everyone! We are back with some fun pop culture stuff. Some of today’s stories are fun, and others are, well, just a bit too annoying for me to specifically expand on but I’ll give them a mention. Let’s jump into our Pop Culture News, Edition Eighteen (!!) and see what is out there this week.
MOVIE NEWS | THE INTERESTING 2022 BOOK TO SCREEN ADAPTATIONS YOU CAN SEE
Today we have more Disney stuff (*over it*) and like any week, TV news. But also, I saw some things about an upcoming period drama and I think we’d all agree, we should discuss them. Let’s jump in, shall we?
POP CULTURE NEWS, EDITION EIGHTEEN
1: 1800s OR MODERN MANHATTAN?
Set photos have been popping up on Twitter of Dakota Johnson filming Persuasion for Netflix. The photos do make it appear as if the costume designer is going in a very modern way, or at the very least, not creating looks that fit the typical Austen image. I’m not at all surprised given the description of this adaptation is a more modern approach. I need to define my definitions, but while I will say I don’t mind filmmakers making (or trying to) a story unique, but I also like them to retain the nostalgia or the reasons why we love these stories.
Based off what I’m seeing I’m not sure Netflix’s Persuasion will accomplish this. What do you think? Will you see this one?

Here’s three quick Disney stories:
- According to stories, “temporarily” Minnie will be foregoing her typical (and adorable!) red polka dot dress for a “blue pantsuit” designed by Stella McCarthy. This will be to celebrate the parks 30th anniversary according to news stories.
- Another news story from Disney is the erasing of the Seven Dwarves (at least traditionally) from their upcoming live-action remake of Snow White. This because popular star Peter Dinklage says that continuing on with the seven dwarf characters is not being progressive, suggesting it would reinforce stereotypes of “dwarves” living in caves. Um… I’m sorry, but I don’t think anyone has that stereotype. Like what does he even MEAN by these comments? In response to his statement, Disney says “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach.” FYI, Disney, the seven dwarfs are actually some of my most loved Disney characters (they have so much personality!). I like how kind, generous and ultimately, protective towards Snow White they are. I can honestly say, I will fully miss their presence. There’s a difference between making something or someone unique, and making them irrelevant.
- Finally, Elizabeth Mitchell is going to return in the new Disney+ series The Santa Clause. Thoughts?
3: WHICH STAR WILL APPEAR IN ‘F10’?
After the prior and now, more recent, “controversy” surrounding a Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson feud, Johnson is not returning for future Fast and Furious movies. Or that’s the word now. Coming into the franchise for its tenth outing is Jason Momoa. The Aquaman star is attached to play in the new role in a plot that is currently “unknown” for the film that has a May 2023 release date.
FINAL STORIES:
- Season two of Sweet Magnolias will be challenging all of its romantic and non-romantic relationships in the aftermath of the season one ender car wreck. This according to TVLine that commented specifically that Annie and Ty’s relationship won’t be “what fans are probably expecting.”
- Marvel star Evangeline Lilly spoke out about ha when it comes to what you inject into your body. On Instagram she said “I believe nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will, under threat of violent attack…” I have always loved her character in Ant-Man and unlike most social media perspectives, this changes nothing for me.
