‘AGATHA RAISIN: LOVE, LIES & LIQUOR,’ SERIES FOUR, EPISODE TWO IS HERE!

Agatha Raisin: Love, Lies & Liquor (2022) Acorn TV Series Review

While perhaps a bit awkward to take a trip with ones ex, Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen) is nothing if not persistent. Helping out James (Jamie Glover) with marketing his next novel, he whisks her away on a trip. Trouble is, Agatha doesn’t know the “where” of their destination. Once there, she discovers a dusty old castle hotel that isn’t anything she expected. The place means something to James though and so, they make a go of the getaway.

On their second day, Agatha is accused of murder and everything goes sideways. But with her plucky attitude she manages to become both suspect and investigator, and all while looking fabulous. agatha raisin love lies and liquor

As this episode begins, we see Agatha and James reunite and head off on their trip, so honestly, I didn’t expect the usual crime solving gang to play a role. I should have known better given how well these stories always seem to integrate everyone and everything together. We still see plenty of Toni (Jodie Tyack) and Roy (Matthew Horne), and later on the rest of the gang too. (Also, I just have to give a shout-out to the story Toni and Roy have in this episode. It’s hilarious!) Plus, it’s a funny little line to watch everyone overtake Agatha’s house in her absence, and the poker game scene is snazzy. agatha raisin love lies and liquor

Same as anything I see in the Agatha Raisin series, this one is fun. It’s another puzzle to figure out and in particular it’s hilarious to watch Agatha balance being a suspect with a private eye. Makes for good comedy, only as usually, British comedy always differs slightly from American. The fact that we’re just seeing some additional episodes in this makes me happy. I didn’t anticipate this, and while it’s looking to only be four 90 minute installments (including the already released Christmas episode), we see get to catch up with Agatha & Co. and that’s always a good day. What more I could say I don’t know except, if you like the show, don’t miss this!

Love, Lies & Liquor will debut Monday February 7th. Watch for it on the Acorn TV app.

Content: it’s all pretty standard fare for this show. A man walks in on a couple in the midst of sex/a sex act; we don’t see anything, just their disheveled appearance when both pop up from behind the couch. There’s some winking references and brief suggestion that James and Agatha will share a room (they don’t).

Sincere thanks to Acorn TV for the screening opportunity. I’m grateful. All opinions are my own.
