POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FORTY-FOUR: THE ONE THAT FINALLY HAS STORIES!

After weeks of being on the pop culture story struggle bus, finally there’s some new stories this week. I cannot tell you how much easier this makes content life. Makes things far more exciting to put things together as well rather than just the usual new TV show news. I’m just riding high on this because honestly, if the more recent weeks are any kind of basis, this probably won’t extend to next week. pop culture news edition forty-four

A LOVE LETTER?

In this past week, one of the trending and viral posts on social media was one from motivational speaker and Christian (according to his bio) Solomon Buchi. In the post that he posted as a kind of “letter” to his fiancé, he writes, in part, that she is “not the most beautiful woman” or the “most intelligent.” Of course, EVERYONE and their mother was offended by this though I did see some people commenting, saying while they don’t think he puts it quite right, they do understand where he’s coming from.

Love and marriage is way more than beauty and whether or not someone is pretty, is basically the sentiment some have. I get this to, but honestly, my opinion and question is, why did he have to publish that on social media? I genuinely think that this “need” to share everything on social media is quite harmful. But that’s a post for another day.

MAKE INSTAGRAM FUN AGAIN

I saw a post with this title and was like yes!!! Please, MAKE Instagram fun again. It’s for a few reasons, and I see SO many small business owners talking about after YEARS of building up their following only for Instagram changes to impact their pages. That’s just sad and makes the chances for anyone trying to build a space impossible if you don’t play by Instagram’s rules.

I’ve seen stories saying Instagram will persist in making its app a TikTok lookalike, but then today I saw that they’ll “phase out” the TikTok feed look. What that means I don’t know, but goodness, I’m just so over Instagram’s changes and persistence in disallowing anyone who creates still form content to grow.

MEAN OR JUST A VIRAL TIKTOK TREND?

This past week (or maybe it was last actually?) Jojo Siwa posted up a TikTok. In the video she share her celeb crush, nicest celeb, and all the things. One of the categories was rudest celebrity, where she put a photo of Hallmark and Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure. The video went viral with all sorts of pop culture websites picking it up, creating drama. According to a video posted to Candace Cameron Bure’s Instagram page, she managed to get in touch with Jojo, speak with her and find out what happened between them.

According to Jojo, from Candace’s recounting, she met Candace at a red carpet event for Fuller House when she was 11. When asking for a photo, Candace replied “not right now.” Additionally, Candace goes on to recount that Jojo shared that it’s fine, she understands now as an adult and that Candace really wasn’t that mean. Jojo also said (via Candace’s video) that she never expected the video to go viral.

Ok, here’s my thing. Honestly, maybe Jojo didn’t expect the video to go viral (but also, girl, you’re a popular celebrity jumping on a TikTok trend, so…). However if she truly didn’t think Candace was that rude in the encounter (plus they met later which went well), then it was disingenuous to put Candace in that category. What did you think of this story?

LAST THINGS

If you love the original The Santa Clause movies from Disney, excited about the upcoming Disney+ series, this is for you. David Krumholtz is another of the cast members to reprise his feature film role.

PBS has renewed Miss Scarlet and the Duke for a third season ahead of its autumn 2022 second season drop. If you love this period drama, this is likely something you’ll be excited for! Season three is set to drop pretty much right on top of its second year, in January of 2023.

For some political news, The View hosts had some choice words about the organization Turning Point USA after they hosted a summit event in Florida. During the event, protesters attended, standing outside the event with radical signs and flags. The View hosts linked those protestors to the organizers and event despite Turning Point condemning that ideology. So interesting how someone like Whoopie Goldberg can say what she wants about others who maybe aren’t even on another side politically, but have a different perspective. But if you say something about her, it’s like a verbal world war.

Everyone is gushing over the new photos of the Marilyn Monroe biopic Netflix calls Blonde. A film that will star newcomer Ana de Armas in the titular role. Additionally, it’s will be slapped with the NC-17 rating. Pretty sure that says it all.

E! News is getting into scripted film – did you know this? The first of their six film line up is said to be a romantic comedy. Chloe Bennet will lead the cast as a woman struggling professionally only to wind up married to her best friend after a night of parrying. Agreeing to move back to his hometown in Tennessee, complications arise for both in the currently titled Married By Mistake.

The season three trailer and teaser for Never Have I Ever released, and people are talking!

There was Comic-Con last week with LOTS of movie and TV news including teasers. Some of which includes the upcoming MCU phases, and honestly? I’m even less here for these phases of Marvel than I currently am. I’ll just be glad for and enjoy the feature film phases pre 2020.

What are your thoughts on these stories? Did you see any pop on your timelines through the week? What’s your take on them? Do you agree or disagree? Comment all the comments. Let’s chat, shall we?
