CHANGING ITS BRAND

Hallmark announced this week it would be changing from their parent name of Crown Media Family Networks to Hallmark Media. Seems an interesting change honestly given the shifts and growing pains the network has been implementing. Time will tell if its indicative of anything or not.

Speaking of Hallmark, there’s also rumors swirling that they could possibly bring back Good Witch; the CEO also says of Signed, Sealed, Delivered, in part β€œdon’t think we’re finished with that”; and finally, a statement was made that Hallmark may have β€œmystery franchises are in the works.” If this is true, are you ready for more mysteries from their Movies & Mysteries line?

Finally, also in Hallmark news, cast opposite the Andie McDowell led drama is Chyler Leigh. Best known (recently) for her role as Alex in Supergirl, Chyler will play daughter to McDowell’s character. The plot reads she left her hometown after a family tragedy but returns after her marriage and career falls apart. Estranged from her mother, she and her teenage daughter try to start anew in the drama currently called The Way Home.

PERIOD DRAMA COMEDY

Hulu adapted the novel When you Were Mine, by Rebecca Seale. The novel follows Rosaline, cousin of Juliet, and the girl who first loved Romeo. The film will follow Rosaline’s perspective and her attempts to win back her mind. Kaitlyn Dever will play the titular role who you may know from Justified or Last Man Standing. This is being called a β€œreimagining” of the Romeo and Juliet story, which I think is a really fair and accurate way to categorize the production.

What do you think? Will this be something you watch? Have you read the novel? Check out the first images below!

LAST THINGS

Following their immense success with The Gray Man, the Russo brothers are already in pre-production for their next Netflix outing. This one will feature Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown as a drifter and teen girl who happens to be search for her brother.

Speaking of period drama that may be funnier, Amazon Prime released its teaser poster for Catherine Called Birdy which we talked about in this very series a week or two ago.

Original Magnum P.I. star Roger E. Mosley passed away. The actor played T.C. on the popular 80s series and even made guest appearances on the more recent re-make of the show on CBS.

PBS Masterpiece and ITV has recommissioned Grantchester for an eighth season. The series stars Robson Green as DI Geordie Keating and Tom Brittney as Reverend Will Davenport, who wind up solving murders together.

Not “news,” but this past week I watched Hulu’s The Princess, their action flick with Joey King that has an R-rating. Did you guys see it? Honestly I didn’t love it, but it was interesting to see and I don’t regret seeing it.

Jason Isaacs will star as Carey Grant in a biopic from ITV and BritBox International currently called Archie. The film will chronicle his life starting at birth and will β€œintercut scenes from 1961” during the height of his fame, but at a very unhappy personal time.

Jane Seymour’s Harry Wild will return for a second season with Acorn TV. The series follows a woman who has a knack for crime solving, which adds a strain on her already complicated relationship with her policeman son.

The memoir of former Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy, I’m Glad my Mother Died, which released this past week, sold out, reportedly, at places like Amazon. Did you read this one? Or would you? I hear it’s super raw compared to other memoirs.

Elon Musk is still in a battle with Twitter. The dude recently sold an absence amount of his Tesla stock, rumored to be in case he must go through with buying Twitter. After originally planning to do so, he changed course when learning the deal may not be worth the 40 some billion deal given that Twitter was fibbing about the number of bot accounts on its platform.

The popular icon Olivia Newton-John passed away this past week. Known for her vocal talents and role in the iconic film Grease, the tributes poured in for the famous star who had battled cancer more than once over the years.

In pursuit of their upcoming kids programming streaming launch, Daily Wire has hired Chris Sonnenburg, an Emmy award winner for a Disney show he ran. His title with Daily Wire will be Senior VP of Animation Development and Production. This all ahead of Daily Wire’s first launch of kid programming with a show called Chip Chilla.
