‘A BIG FAT FAMILY CHRISTMAS’: FAMILY TRADITIONS IS THE HALLMARK OF THIS ONE
Set in San Francisco, A Big Fat Family Christmas, is relatively fast paced, but also doesn’t quite all add up.
A Big Fat Family Christmas (2022) Hallmark TV Film Review
Working hard but following her passion for photography is what keeps Liv Rose (Shannon Chan-Kent) busy. She works for a newspaper but also runs a popular social media account with snaps from her viewpoint during the Christmas season. This year, she along with a new features writer, Henry (Shannon Kook) receives an assignment from their boss (Jack Wagner).
What could be exciting and fun, turns out to be a challenge. When Liv learns the subject of the article, covering the annual Chang family Christmas party, she must reevaluate. The secret she tries to keep from her co-workers and especially the cute Henry might trip her up.

It’s cute, overall, but a little too squishy for my preference. There’s the usual influence of the Christmas season and I did like the setting since normally we don’t see too many Christmas movies or maybe any, set in San Francisco. Nonetheless, overall, this one just isn’t quite what I would say is great. a big fat family christmas
The supporting cast isn’t my favorite, but the two leads are decent, and neither of them are difficult to root for. Still… I never fully warm to Liv as a character. I mean, she’s fine and there’s nothing overt to complain about, but her character is way too conflicting for me. The way she’s written just doesn’t quite line up. One scene she’s sharing why she doesn’t like something and the reasons behind it, and the next she’s doing the exact opposite and disproving her reasons.
All that to say, like most Christmas movies, A Big Fat Family Christmas is cute and sweet and fun. The traditions are extremely prevalent to the characters and family also play vital roles for both Liv and Henry, even if his is just in spirit.
