POP CULTURE NEWS SEVENTY-ONE
Amazon Prime has renewed The Terminal List for a second year. Chris Pratt will return in a season based on the Jack Carr novel True Believer. Plus, rumor has it that Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards, who the piece says is a fan favorite, will be receiving a prequel about his character. So far, the plot for it (which is untitled) looks to be an “elevated espionage thriller that takes viewers on Edwards’ journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator.” Are you excited?
In casting news, and going to a show that is wrapping its series run, Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs alumni) will join an episode (?) of NCIS: LA playing Killbride’s son. Earlier, the show cast Marilu Henner as his estranged ex however the two will apparently not appear in the same episode.
Speaking of TV shows, The Blacklist is done and preparing to air its final tenth season episodes (this one has been on the bubble for a while) and CBS’ So Help Me Todd will return for a second season in what is, I think, an early renewal announcement.
For those obsessed with Bridgerton, you’ve no doubt seen Phoebe Dynevor who played Daphne, will not be in the upcoming third season.
Complete with scientists and a recreation, James Cameron has a documentary special set to settle the could-Jack-have-fit-on-the-door debate. Honestly, this makes me roll my eyes. Like, LET fans debate it. Let them banter about it, why are we making a production about this!? I mean I do know why they’re doing it, but still… it’s odd.
Zachary Levi, former Chuck actor and current DC universe star, is under a FIRESTORM of controversy. All for quote tweeting a tweet that asks, “Do you agree or not, that Pfizer is a real danger to the world.”
The story continues when James Gunn was asked about this, he responded saying, “Actors, filmmakers I work with are going to say things that I agree with and things that I don’t agree with. That’s going to happen. I don’t have a list of things that somebody should say because of what I think. I can’t be changing my plans all the time because an actor says something that I don’t agree with.” This is all reasonable and logical. He goes on to say, “By the same token, if someone is doing something morally reprehensible, that’s a different story. We have to take that stuff into account.”
Speaking of DC, there’s a PLETHORA of news about DC and its various franchises. Honestly, I just don’t have the wherewithal to read about it all. But some of the things the new bosses are addressing includes Ezra Miller, the eliminating of Henry Cavill (we’re happy to have you playing Sherlock Holmes Mr. Cavill!), and the future of Gal Gadot in the universe.
24 alumni Annie Wersching passed away this past week. The actress is well known for playing on the Kiefer Sutherland show, but also made guest appearances on ABC’s The Rookie.
A famous show featuring Andy Griffith is set to get a makeover at CBS. Kathy Bates is rumored to take over the Perry Mason role in a new version of the popular TV show. Bates will be playing Madeline Mason in this version.
After appearing on a talk show, the host Andy Cohen, asks Hilary Duff if she’d still be a part of a Lizzie McGuire revival if “it lived up to her vision.” Her response? “Of course.” And furthermore, she went on to say that at the time Disney+ was new and trying to figure out everything. Now she’s “optimistic.”
Paramount+ and Showtime will be one streaming service. What all this means I don’t know because honestly, I really don’t have the energy to read the nitty gritty details.
Tom Brady announced this week that he’s retiring, this time “for good.” The football quarterback famously already retired only to return in a move that many attribute to the divorce. Other rumors say he has future political ambitions, and his wife wasn’t supportive of that and/or his politics.
