Only You (1994) Film Review
Destiny is what Faith (Marisa Tomei) builds her entire future life around. When she was eleven years old fortune tells her the name “Damon Bradley” is the man she’ll someday marry. This is the dream she holds onto all the way into adulthood. About to marry her “foot doctor” fiancé, Faith suddenly learns Bradley exists when he calls her from the airport looking for her fiancé. About to jet off to Italy, Faith rushes to the airport and through unexpected events, she flies off to Venice along with her best friend in the hopes of meeting Damon.
Chasing him around Venice, she finally meets Damon (Robert Downey Jr.), a charming man who gives her the romantic night of her life.
FILM REVIEW | ‘9 TO 5’: A COMEDY UNLIKE TODAY’S BRAND OF FUNNY
✨🌹‘ONLY YOU’: POPULAR 90S STARS MAKE FANTASY ROMANTIC-COMEDY🌹✨ Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. co-star in this 1994 dramedy. #Romance #RomanceMovie #MovieReview #MovieReviews #RomanceDrama Share on XOnly You is a film I’ve actually never seen. There’s a line between being too silly and just enough that the script presents a likable and adorable amount of cheese. This one is generally too silly. It’s fine and even sweetly cute up until Faith is making out with Damon. The film is just a little too goofy. As a result this isn’t something I enjoy in a favorite kind of way. From this era, I prefer something like While You Were Sleeping.
While it’s fun to see the cast in roles I’m not used to seeing them in, I like Robert Downey Jr. better in something like Sherlock Holmes. Surface level, this is a cute movie. Because of the backstory which is destiny, the script really leans into the concept of fantasy. This is true from the onset when Faith chases someone she doesn’t know a realistic thing about.
If you enjoy films that chase a fantasy, this one is a good fit for you. The film does have its moments. It’s just not one I loved. ✨
You can find Only You, at publication, with Hulu.

QUICK FACTS
CAST: Robert Downey Jr., Bonnie Hunt, Marisa Tomei
RATING: PG
CONTENT: There’s lots of heavy making out. A couple goes back to a room and lays back on the bed making out. There’s the idea they’ll spend the night together but don’t. There’s some minor profanity.
