POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and FIFTY-SEVEN
For anyone who loves gothic period drama, you may have seen that Emerald Fennell will direct a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The story, based of course on the classic novel by Emily Bronte, is being helmed by Fennell who formerly starred in Call the Midwife. The stars of the film have been announced as being Jacob Elordi (from The Kissing Booth) and Margot Robbie who is of course best known as Barbie. What are your thoughts on this casting?
If you’re a fan of Yellowstone, according to multiple reports, CBS will also air the second part of season five premiere after its debut on Paramount. They will air the premiere the same night (only two hours later) as its Paramount drop and will be on the schedule after an episode of Tracker. Will you be watching?
In sad news, Maggie Smith, perhaps best known (recently) for Downton Abbey, passed away. The star, had a storied career working with many popular co-stars and directors was known for period drama roles like David Copperfield and Gosford Park, and also the Harry Potter films. She was also well known and acclaimed for roles on the stage. According to a statement from her sons, she was “an intensely private person” and they ask for privacy at this time.
LIST | CHRISTMAS FICTION COMING TO SHELVES IN 2024
Those who love fairy tale legend lore may love knowing that Librarians: the Next Chapter producer Jonathan English will be bringing to life a 10-part Robin Hood series. 2025 will be the debut year for this one and it will appear on MGM+. The show is reportedly a “modern” retelling which could mean a literal contemporary or modern for its era. Either way early reports promises to still have the beloved romance between Robina and Marian. Who would you cast in these roles?
In a terrible oversight on my part, many iconic shows celebrated big anniversaries this past week. While most aren’t shows I care about since I haven’t seen them, one I did adore is Veronica Mars. Celebrating its 20th year this past week means chatter did occur for this one, and to my regret I did miss celebrating this show. I didn’t watch it back when it was “hot and happening” but nonetheless I regret that I didn’t celebrate with some type of post. Perhaps I will celebrate it next month with something. Just because it deserves shout-out. What did you love best about this series?
