Featuring familiar Hallmark faces but new characters, Hallmark puts out Francesca Quinn, PI.

Francesca Quinn, PI (2022) Hallmark TV Film Review

Life is good in the Quinn family. Francesca (Mallory Jansen) works as an investigator in the police department. A department led by her father, and she works with her best friend and boyfriend, Win (Dylan Bruce). Frankie is happy. But then a murder case shatters everything. Her stepmother Megan is the murderer and this breaks everything apart. Her father resigns, her stepmother is sentenced and Win breaks Frankie’s heart.

Now, with time apart, her ex Carl is there for Frankie and they fall back into old plans. Then trouble again finds Frankie when Carl is murdered just as his latest manuscript is about to reexamine Frankie’s life in ways she’s not ready to face.

Despite  having several mystery series that are fan favorites, Hallmark hasn’t been producing mysteries. At least not in the batch productions they once did. The mysteries they do now air are with new characters and new faces. One of these being the character of Francesca Quinn, PI.

This does have flaws and it’s not quite there. Yet. However I really like what this film tries to do. Its voiceover is trying to inspire the old school style of detective films in the older style private detective storytelling. But the film doesn’t do pacing all that well. The timeline doesn’t quite fit how it should and the film has some awkward “cuts” at times. Secondly, the reintroduction of Frankie with Win isn’t quite where it should be. In one scene they’re handing out low blows (relating to their past) and then they’re in a bar with smiles.

Honestly, I would like to see more from these characters. I think there is lots of good here and that’s worth something. If Hallmark’s latest trends is an indication it seems more like mysteries are going to be one and done. Hoping it’s not but if it is, this one is a good watch with some flaws that may distract some but is still entertaining.

Content: there’s really nothing to note. This is pretty much normal Hallmark mystery fare. There is some “tense” moments, too. The film is TV-PG.
