This week there’s TV news including a TV teaser trailer drop and hopefully other things, too. Let’s just jump in and see what we find, shall we.

POP CULTURE NEWS EIGHTY-SIX

ABC, in addition to only having reality TV on their fall schedule (due to an expectation of an extended strike) has made a move by cancelling The Company You Keep after one season. I’m kind of sad about this because I did think the pilot had potential. But did it keep up that pace or go downhill? This along with Alaska Daily will be a “one and done” season, plus Big Sky has been cancelled following its just finished third season.

McKenna Grace and Asher Angel (from Shazam!) will co-star in the adaptation of Katie Cotugno’s 99 Days. The plot will follow, “Molly (Grace), who is facing one long, hot summer vacation back at Star Lake: stuck in paradise for 99 days — with Patrick, the boy whose heart she broke, and the boy she broke it for…his brother Gabe (Angel),” and is being produced by Alloy Entertainment, which also produced the wildly popular Purple Hearts. I’ve not read anything by Katie, so tell me, are her books worth a read?

As we discussed in a prior week’s roundup, Justified is back in a kind of sequel in Justified: City Primeval, with Timothy Olyphant returning. The show will drop on FX July 18. They also dropped the teaser trailer for this one, too.

Fans are having a bit of a meltdown over the casting of the Blake Lively produced adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us. Also starring in the role of Lily, Lively has been criticized as not being right for the role. This has amped up again with her recent red hair transformation and the photos floating around of her filming the production. The film follows Lily caught in a complicated love triangle. Co-starring with Lively is Justin Baldoni as Ryle (he will also direct); Brandon Sklenar as Atlas; and Jenny Slate playing Alyssa. I haven’t read this or any Hoover novel however, I will say from what I know of the character and novel, Lively doesn’t seem suited to the role. What are your thoughts?

CW continues to trim its development projects! This includes, the “female-led Zorro series, Jake Chang (which was to be based on a new-ish Archie Comics character), or any other prospective series left over from former CW president Mark Pedowitz’s regime.” Also mentioned is the live action Powerpuff Girls and an Arrowverse spinoff. The CW’s entertainment president did say they’ve “already given those back to the studios, so they’re free to develop those and sell them anywhere.” Though rumor has it there may be a Librarians sequel series. So far it’s about “a “Librarian” from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent.” Would you watch that?

Chris Pratt is also in social media hot water. This time for his mother’s day post. In it, he thanks his wife (mother of two of his kids), mother and mother-in-law. The social justice warriors are having a fit that instead of singling out his ex, and mother to his oldest child, a son, Anna Faris, he instead goes on in the caption to say, “to all of the other moms in my life, I’m so grateful for all you do- thank you so much. Hope you feel celebrated today.” Honestly do you think it’s a “big deal” he doesn’t publicly say anything about Faris? They’re divorced. They’re both in other relationships. I don’t think the deal that is being made of this is justified.

Netflix is upping renewals for Ginny and Georgia with a third and fourth season order and Virgin River grabs a sixth season renewal prior to its autumn 2023 fifth season drop.
