A LOOK AT THE NEW SUMMER 2023 TV SHOW PREMIERES

For the last few years, the summer tv shows seem to be fewer and fewer. There are not many choices and those that are don’t seem all that interesting. It’s kind of like the summer tv season is heading towards extinction. Which may actually be a pro because perhaps it means more people are doing things versus watching things. But whatever the case, the options continue to dwindle more so now that the fun CBS summer show Blood and Treasure was axed after an extended gap between its only two seasons. Still we’re going to dig into what may be premiering. summer 2023 tv shows

Primarily it’s acquisitions and reality tv, the latter of which I am not even a little bit interested in. So we’ll collect the few TV show premieres that seem like they may be a decent production (story is altogether another thing), and then I want to hear from you. Which of these would you possibly spend time on? Let’s see what’s on the calendar.

SUMMER 2023 TV SHOWS

sorted by premiere date

RIDLEY – JULY 18

WHERE: PBS

This one is about a former detective who becomes a consultant and partners with his protégé to solve complex murder cases.

MOONSHINE – JULY 7

WHERE: CW

I haven’t a clue what this show is about. It’s an acquisition and calls itself a “raucous” comedy about a family of siblings making control of the family company a battle.

JUSTIFIED: CITY PRIMIVAL – JULY 18

WHERE: FX

This is the follow up to the former show Justified. In this one we catch up with ranger Raylen Givens after he’s done some living post where we left him. This includes his mostly grown-up daughter and of course, I’m sure there’s some law man stuff too. Because that’s what Justified is.

LIONESS – JULY 23

WHERE: Paramount+

Taylor Sheridan heads up this drama with Zoe Saldaña playing a CIA “station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives.” The drama revolves around a “real-life” CIA program about the CIA’s “Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within.” The series follows Cruz Manuelos (played by Locke & Key‘s Laysla De Oliveira) who will play a “a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine,” additionally Hallmark fans would recognize Jill Wagner, too.

CHILDREN RUIN EVERYTHING – JULY 24

WHERE: CW

A Canadian dramedy, this one is on Roku to stream, but will make its U.S. network debut on the CW. The show follows a harried couple trying to keep up with their two kids and making plans to add to their family. Meaghan Roth from Hawaii Five-o stars, only just in case you want to know, this one does lean pretty heavily into some “popular” social justice issues or issues that are elevated in culture.

THE LOST FLOWERS OF ALICE HART – AUGUST 8

WHERE: Prime

In what I’m sure will be a very adult drama, this one is about a woman who lived a traumatic childhood which now “casts” a darkness over her life as an adult.

THE WINTER KING – AUGUST 30

WHERE: MGM+

This one is a fantasy story about the King Arthur legend. Eddie Marsan stars in this where the storyline reads “A former warrior now turned monk, tells the story of how Arthur became the lord of war despite the illegitimacy of his throne.”

Returning shows | Endeavour Final Season (June 18 on PBS) • Family Law Season Two (July 7 on CW) • Jack Ryan Final Season (June 30 on Prime) • The Lincoln Lawyer Season Two (July 6 on Netflix) • Never Have I Ever Final Season (June 8 on Netflix) • The Summer I Turned Pretty Season Two (July 14 on Prime) • Sweet Magnolias Season Three (July 20 on Netflix) • When Calls the Heart Season Ten (July 30 on Hallmark)

Would you try any of these? Which of these sound interesting? Do you watch TV in the summertime? Comment everything below. Let’s talk.

    1. RIGHT!? Same here, Molly! This is why I don’t have Apple or Disney. ;) I think MGM+ is a new name for an old service? I’m not sure. But I feel like I read about that a while back.
