‘RAISE A GLASS TO LOVE’: ANOTHER STORY ABOUT WINE AND ROMANCE

With some new talent and some familiar, Raise a Glass to Love is a familiar production from a familiar network.

Returning home isn’t in the plan for Jenna Savern (Laura Osnes). She has big career plans to earn her Master Sommelier. She’s failed the exam more than once and yet, determining to accomplish this, she doesn’t give up. All this for a goal to help high end restaurants curate their wine selections. However with her parent’s upcoming anniversary, she heads home for a two week visit where a flood of memories assault her.

Back at the family business, Jenna pitches in at the vineyard where she also meets their new winemaker Marcelo Castillo (Juan Pablo Di Pace). This is the one new acquaintance that could be the one wrinkle in Jenna’s big plans.

Using a setting that is familiar to Hallmark, this story isn’t a standout. Maybe because just prior to watching the film, I had seen another production (from this network) based around wine. I’m not sure. Or maybe it’s because of something I read about someone that is adjacent related to this. Whatever it is, I didn’t walk away loving Raise a Glass to Love.

Keeping true to the norm, there is lots of sweet scenes and interactions between the characters. There’s also the additional complication of a relationship in this script. Something that the network stepped back from in more recent years. When done well this trope doesn’t annoy me and actually in this, the addition isn’t bad. It fits with the plot and doesn’t seem overly problematic. Like 99% of the network, this is another film that fits well with their branding and I’m sure will enchant many. Laura Osnes has been in several Christmas flicks as well as In the Key of Love. So if you’ve liked her prior films, you’re likely to enjoy this.

Content: there’s the normal TV-G rating. There’s kisses but nothing much beyond this.
