POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and NINE
Likely hoping to keep some of the success and momentum going of their fan favorite period drama, Netflix is producing another one. Described in one article as such, “The eight-episode period extravaganza, set to be a cross between ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘The White Lotus,’ tells the story of how the luxury winter tourism market came to be. In 1899, hotelier André Morel has a dream of turning his establishment into a palace accessible for the entire winter season.” The article further goes on to say that it will require “950 extras, 6,000 pieces of costume and a dozen horse-drawn carriages and sleighs.” The season will wrap early next year, meaning we may not even see it hit the streamer until 2025. But… would you watch?
Great American Family’s Bill Abbott was “pressed,” according to an article, about his thoughts regarding Candace Cameron Bure’s claim that GAF will keep traditional marriage at the center of its storytelling. When asked, he made the statement that when she speaks on that she’s “not speaking on behalf” of the network, or presumably him. Have you seen GAF’s movies recently? Which one is among your favorite? And how do you think Candace’s Christmas movie will do this year?
In other Great American Family news, you can see favorite Jill Wagner star in her Christmas movie Saturday night, titled Bringing Christmas Home, a movie one site singled out as the “best pick” to see this weekend.
If you’re a fan of Chicago P.D., come season 11 (at some point!), one of its stars, since season 4, won’t be returning. Tracy Spiridakos who plays Upton will depart the show, though no one is reporting “when” yet. Last season caused a stir among fans when actor Jesse Lee Soffer, who played her husband, left the show. Do you think he’ll ever return… or how do you think Upton will be written out?
If you were excited to get a back-to-back (at least by Hollywood standards) Mission: Impossible duo, you’ll actually end up waiting. The part 2 version of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning is pushed back to 2025 after an original date of 2024, following up this summer’s part one release. Does this make you more or less excited?
Paramount+ axed not only its thriller Fatal Attraction, but its espionage story Rabbit Hole, too. Neither show – neither the Joshua Jackson or the Kiefer Sutherland led dramas, will return for a second year on the streamer.
