BOOKS, WHY WE’RE THANKFUL FOR THEM plus CULINARY COVER ART

It’s the week of being thankful, which should translate to any time of year. Whether we’re glad its here or wish it were a little further out, this we cannot change. We are at Thanksgiving which means most of us will be reflecting on what we’re thankful for. One tiny portion of this is books. Many reasons can and do line up for reasons to be thankful for books, and while we will talk about that (below), instead of getting into specifics on why we’re thankful for them, we’re doing a cover design list. Specifically, one that features culinary book cover art.

BOOKS: WHY WE’RE THANKFUL FOR THEM plus CULINARY COVER ART. Sharing #culinary book cover art, talking about why I'm thankful for books, and sharing a childhood #AmericanGirl story, too! #Reading #Readers #Thankful #Thanksgiving #TopTen… Share on X

While I probably could think of a few reasons why I’m thankful for books, I’m not sure what my number would be, and I really don’t want to test it. Especially this is true when it’s a holiday week. We need simple and easy. (Plus, I suspect I’ve done lists in the past about such topics.) I think all of my “little reasons” for being thankful for books boils down to the bigger picture, imagination. It’s so nice to have a place to “visit” when things are heavy or even if they aren’t but we still want a little bit of adventure or excitement or “only in the movies” romance, it and more waits inside the pages of a book.

This is the bigger picture reason why I love books and am glad they exist, including a field where there’s something for everyone.

To keep things simple and fun, we’re featuring some pretty cover art, specifically some that has a table (or try to) all ready for the family to gather and enjoy a feast. Appropriate since this is what many enjoy on Thanksgiving.

CULINARY BOOK COVER ART

BEST SERVED HOT and SADIE ON A PLATE, Amanda Elliot

I’ve been wanting to read Amanda’s books for a while now. So in my research for this list, I did order these two books. I read a couple review snippets for ‘Sadie’ and it seems like it’d be a me read. Goodreads

LOWCOUNTRY ROMANCE (SERIES), Rachel Hauck

This is a series, and I think all have a table of some sort. The books were updated with new covers, but the original cover for Sweet Caroline (first book) is a table. Ok, so you cannot really see the table with the two new redesigns for books two and three, but there is a table where they’re seated, right? Goodreads

LOVE FROM SCRATCH, Kaitlyn Hill

Like a few of these, this one isn’t what I envisioned when I planned this list, but surprisingly, I really couldn’t find many that “fit” my vision in the way that Hillary’s (below) do. Still, this one does have a table, and look at all that confectionary food! Goodreads

THE SATURDAY NIGHT SUPPER CLUBCarla Laureano

No table, but that IS quite an impressive culinary presentation, right? Goodreads

TOGETHER AT THE TABLE, Hillary Manton Lodge

I read this series quite some time ago and have fond memories of it. It’s also a series I think I’d have been glad to see end “either way,” because I liked elements about each life choice the main character had. Goodreads

LIZZY and JANE, Katherine Reay

Maybe I’m stretching this one a tiny bit, but since it is a place setting, I’m going to say it fits. Goodreads

PRETTY LITTLE PIECES, Carmen Schober

This one is probably a stretch since it’s not exactly a table per se, but who knows. That background could be a table, and there are plates, albeit pieces of them. Goodreads

KIRSTEN’S SURPRISE, Janet Shaw

These books… they were my childhood. I have so many of them, from these (Kirsten’s books) to Josefina’s stories, and from later on down the line, some of the mystery novels the company published. This one is a nostalgic addition, yes, but I think it still fits ok, too. Also, fun fact, I always wanted this outfit for my doll, but didn’t ever get it, so I made a “crude” version of the dress with some old fabric my grandmother had. I just recently found said creation in a messy closet, too! Goodreads

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FELICITY, Valerie Tripp

Another throwback. These may be stretching the rules, but honestly, they’re also part of the reason I loved reading as a kid, so in a way, they fit as a reason to be thankful for books. Goodreads

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIT, Valerie Tripp

Same story here as for the American Girl stories for Kirsten and Felicity. So. Many. Memories. Goodreads

THE APPLE ORCHARD, Susan Wiggs

This is the only book on my list in recent weeks that I don’t own. But I decided to make an exception for this one because I think this was the novel that inspired the Hallmark film The Secrets of Bella Vista, which I have seen. So I’m familiar with the story, and it felt like a good fit. Goodreads

Have you read any of these? What are your “little” or “big” reasons you’re thankful for books? Have you read any of these? What made your list today? Comment all of your thoughts in the comment section.

    1. I loved all of my American Girl books. They were a BIG part of why I grew to become the reader I did. And I’m so glad you have family that will make your house full this week. :) I hope you have the best time… and THANK YOU so much for the mention. I’m grateful and so appreciate you taking the time each week to visit here. Thank you.

  1. I love your twist on this week’s prompt! It’s a clever idea, and one I might just want to borrow in the future. I’ve got Best Served Hot and Sadie on a Plate on my TBR too – they both look so good, and I’ve heard great things about them. This is a great list, and I love all the covers – Together at the Table is such a pretty one!
