I have a feeling I’m not going to be any good at this topic, but again, in this case, this doesn’t matter. We’re here first and foremost to have some fun, and of course, it gives us a chance to share some books. With all that said, let’s see what we find and if I make any good choice for this topic.

BOOK TITLES THAT WOULD MAKE GOOD HEADLINES

THE ROSE OF WINSLOW STREET, Elizabeth Camden

I could see this being some sort of society headline or feature on a person, maybe more so in the era the historical book is set, but still… I think someone with a flowery pen would use this as a headline even if it’s in a societal publication. Goodreads

HAPPINESS FOR BEGINNERS, Katherine Center

I could see this being a headline for some type of feel-good story. Appropriate since it fits the plot of the novel, too. Goodreads

A SECRET TO DIE FOR, Lisa Harris

Fits with some true crime headline, though to be honest, maybe they only put these types of stories in TV specials? Do newspapers still cover stories like this? I haven’t read one in years. Goodreads

THE WISHING SEASON, Denise Hunter

This feels like a headline that would fit in some sort of small town newspaper from a Hallmark movie. It just seems like something you’d see there, fitting since this story is also sweet. Goodreads

A JOURNEY BY CHANCE and THE WINDING ROAD HOME, Sally John

These are novels I read years ago, and some of the first I ever reviewed (just for fun). Both seem like they would be headlines for feel good stories in a hometown newspaper. ‘Chance’ Goodreads • ‘Road’ Goodreads

THE SATURDAY NIGHT SUPPER CLUB, Carla Laureano

Going heavy with the feel good story headlines. But do we want any other kind? Goodreads

LADY JAYNE DISAPPEARS, Joanna Davidson Politano

Perhaps more apropos to the era the novel is set in (the 1800s I think) but still with all the true crime stories, it seems kind of fitting as a headline. Goodreads

DELAYED JUSTICE, Cara Putman

Some of these (titles) remind me of those true crime specials but still, I think they could work as a headline too. Though this one would need a little more or a subtitle, right? Remember, guys, I said in the opening I would probably fail at this. Goodreads

HELLO, GOODBYE AND EVERYTHING IN-BETWEEN and THE STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, Jennifer E. Smith

These both would fit, especially in some sort of feature piece about relationships. I think the latter would be edited to fit the headline better, but this in its original form would either be a piece on love (by statistics, obviously) or if it were edited, perhaps a story about a real couple who has an unusual love story. ‘Hello’ Goodreads • ‘Love’ Goodreads

THINGS I NEVER TOLD YOU, Beth Vogt

An editorial headline, yes, but still we’re going to make it fit. Goodreads

Have you read any of these? Which ones do you think work as a headline? How many are terrible picks!? Comment any and all of your thoughts below. Let’s talk.

  1. None of them are terrible picks! Delayed Justice would definitely make me want to read the article. I can imagine it being a story about a miscarriage of justice that has only just come to light, a wrong righted after years of campaigning, or a cold case finally solved. See, I almost wrote the whole article!

    1. True, Nicky, most headlines aren’t feel-good. But sometimes we have to find those stories and some of these seem like they COULD made for good feel-good story headlines. :)

    1. I didn’t even go look at my bookshelf this week, so I probably could have found more headline “appropriate” titles, but hey, feel-good titles are good too! :)

    1. Those sections are always more fun in a newspaper! I haven’t read a newspaper (not even online) in I don’t know how long. So this was purely an exercise with fun as the goal. :)
