‘WHERE ARE YOU, CHRISTMAS?’ IS UNIQUE ARTISTIC STORYTELLING

Part of the new grouping of Christmas movies we see each year, this 2023 title is a Christmas movie many said was more unique. It’s this that caused me to be more curious than I was about Where Are You Christmas?

Where Are You, Christmas? (2023) Hallmark TV Film Review

Going home is more stressful than relaxing for Addison “Addy” Dean (Lyndsy Fonseca). She comes from a town with too many decorations and a motto that honors Christmas. Additionally, her professional life is all about Christmas working in marketing. She’s ready for a break, and each year she plans an island vacation in order to get that breather. Only this year, her brother has something big to celebrate and one call later, she delays her trip and makes the three hour drive home.

Once there, the usual spirits about until a minor car accident changes everything…

While still full of good cheer and happiness, Where Are You, Christmas? is likely going to be one of the more unique films of this year. It’s far less colorful than most and as a result has considerably less festive décor. In some ways this is intentional given how overdone the sets often are so the lack of décor not only fits this story but looks unique as well. The film, while not so by its script, also pays homage to the classic 40s Christmas films. Though one could argue the film does echo It’s a Wonderful Life.

I love the main cast and have enjoyed their prior respective titles. Lyndsy played in Nikita among other Hallmark titles where she also plays a character lacking in spirit. Michael Rady is a staple as a leading man. The cast is all fun and entertaining together.

If you want something different, Where Are You, Christmas? will probably fit. The script even pokes fun at the tropes (like others have) and it doesn’t end in the way 95% of small town stories do. Even with its unusual lack of purposeful sparkle, it still sparkles in its own special way that makes the film something viewers can remember.

Content: the TV-G rating is for old school Hallmark reasons. There’s a kiss or two, but nothing beyond.
