Checkin’ It Twice (2023) Hallmark TV Film Review
Playing hockey has been a career for Scott (Kevin McGarry). But when the journeyman is traded to a team that he sees as a stepping stone in a town that is more than a little bit crazy over hockey, he’ll have to reevaluate what’s important. While working in the town, he also meets real estate agent, Ashley (Kim Matula). Home to visit, coincidently, it’s her family’s guest house where Scott ends up living too, and where he finds friends in her hockey obsessed family.

🏒❄️‘CHECKIN’ IT TWICE’: THE FIRST HALLMARK CHRISTMAS MOVIE OF 2023❄️🏒 Kevin McGarry features in this first #Hallmark Christmas flick. #Hearties #HallmarkMovie #HallmarkMovies #Christmas #ChristmasMovies #ChristmasMovie #Romance… Share on XThe first from the big Christmas movie network of 2023, Checkin’ It Twice is standard fare for a seasonal movie. It’s not bad, but it’s not something I’ll consider a favorite, either. The script, like many peers, writes itself with its setup that tells you how everything will end. In some ways this is what people love, knowing what they’re getting int. But sometimes it’s nice to have both worlds; comfortable and charming, but also unique.
I do like Kim and Kevin together and their meet cute is fun, too. (The ending using opening callbacks is darling, too.) The film will not just appeal to Christmas movie fans, but also people who like hockey since it features heavily. The film doesn’t go all in (though it does plenty) on Christmas in the usual ways, but it does still have a lot of festiveness. If the new movies starting now are high on your must list, then you’re likely going to enjoy Checkin’ It Twice.
