POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and FIFTEEN
If you cannot get enough of Jane Austen, Masterpiece has produced a new drama starring Keeley Hawes. Hawes will play Jane Austen’s sister Cassandra during the infamous period when she burns her sister’s letters only the plot says it will be re-tooling the story in “a fascinating, witty and heartbreaking story of sisterly love.”
Much like last year, just ahead of its season two drop, Amazon renews Reacher for a third season.

Netflix has a new drama (which is described as Virgin River-esque) called Ransom Canyon. The drama will feature Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in the leads. Adapted from a series of novels by Jodi Thomas, the story line reads to be about “intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.” Ten episodes are in the works. As someone who does like Virgin River (way behind on watching that one though!) and Sweet Magnolias, I’ll likely give this one a chance, too.
In the wake of the strike being officially over, USA Network is plotting a return to scripted TV. This comes not just with the strike ending, but also the success of their former series Suits (through Netflix) and talk of a spin off. The first series won’t be out until 2015 (why?), but the article says that the network brand is looking to head back to “where it started.” This era, from the 2000s and 2010s was dubbed the “blue sky” era and included Burn Notice, Royal Pains and White Collar. Honestly, these were some of my very favorite shows. As the article headline says, it was a “breezy” era of drama shows that were, for the most part upbeat TV, which we rarely if ever see now. pop culture news one hundred and fifteen
Speaking of lighthearted TV, Leverage: Redemption is getting its third season! But only instead of the Amazon supported Freevee platform, the show will now have a home on Prime.
In more TV show renewal news, My Life is Murder, the Acorn TV dramady with Lucy Lawless, will return for a fourth series, presumably in 2024.
If you love FBI: International, it will be missing a familiar face for its upcoming season. Heida Reed, reports say will leave the show early on in its upcoming season.
If it’s your thing, though 99.9% of you have likely seen it, Time named its person of the year, and in a choice that shocks no one, it’s Taylor Swift.
