POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and ELEVEN

Big news of the week is… the SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP reached a “tentative” deal this week, which would end the strike. This, while I don’t know all the particulars or understand everything (nor do I truly care) means actors can take on projects again and promote them as well. According to article headlines, films like Gladiator 2, Deadpool 3, Beetlejuice 2 and more will restart production “ASAP.”

The trailer for January’s upcoming musical Mean Girls made its debut this past week. It made headlines this past week, and the Internet, as usual, has opinions. Some think it will be fun, others find it odd there’s no musical in the trailer and others still think it should be a new story but with the original cast. Angourie Rice will lead the cast as Cady.  If you’re a fan of Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, you’ll also get to see Christopher Briney, too.

MGM+ canceled Chapelwaite, an “1850-set series followed Captain Charles Boone,” played by Adrien Brody.

Another buzzy story of the week is the reveal of PEOPLE’s sexiest man alive… and in case you hadn’t heard, it’s Patrick Dempsey. Dempsey of course was given the nickname “McDreamy” after starring on Grey’s Anatomy for multiple seasons as one of its good-looking doctors. He did also star in Disney’s Enchanted and its sequel Disenchanted.

If you’re a fan of the Wattpad novel by Ali Novak, My Life with the Walter Boys, then you might like to know that Netflix has an adaptation ready to drop on December 7. The TV-14 show will feature Sarah Rafferty along with a host of newcomers. Check out the trailer here.

In the wake of the strike ending ABC made some big moves. They cancelled The Rookie: Feds after one season. Additionally they won’t move ahead with the planned spin off of The Good Doctor titled The Good Lawyer. In other strike news, Disney pushed back the next Captain America movie to 2025, meaning you’ll have longer to wait the return of this Marvel world.

Amazon Prime’s mega 2022 hit Reacher will return on December 15th for its second season. The trailer just dropped and is here.

At 35 years old, actor Evan Ellingson passed away this past week. Known for his role in the adaptation of My Sister’s Keeper, I saw the actor in a recurring role as the son of a CSI: Miami team member.

Another “big” trailer drop is from Masterpiece Theatre / PBS, and the upcoming January release of season four of Miss Scarlet and the Duke.
