NEW AUTHOR DISCOVERIES IN 2023

No secret has been made that I haven’t really been reading for the last three years. As a result, it’s hard to make lists like new author discovers in 2023 because I am not really reading. One thing I did do is read a couple of new authors in the past year that I’ve been meaning to read for eons now. Because of this, we’ll share them… and to make the list more interesting, other things too.

NEW AUTHOR DISCOVERIES IN 2023. Talking about the *very* few new authors I discovered (aka read) in 2023 and the #authors I added to my shelf in the past year. #TopTen #TopTenList #BookList #TopTenTuesday Share on X

We’ll have two lists of authors in this roundup. The first will be those author discoveries in 2023 I did make. Next, I’ll make a list of titles by authors I added to my shelf in 2023. This is so that we actually have a list and not just a one, two, three, and done trio. Let’s get to work and see what we discover.

AUTHOR DISCOVERIES IN 2023

KATHERINE CENTER

I wanted to love her book, and if Happiness for Beginners is any indication, I will. The book was one of the best reading surprises (limited though it was) of the year. Goodreads

SARAH DESSEN

Technically, I did start Along for the Ride in 2022 (I think), but finally finished it, the first I’ve ever read by Dessen. Despite her books seeming like exactly the kind of novels I’d enjoy, I never picked up anything by her, and in fact, unhualed the books by her I owned because of this. Then Netflix went and adapted Along for the Ride, and the rules say (aka my rule), that I have to read the book first or I won’t read it at all. Goodreads

TAYLOR JENKINS REID

While not an instant, I-need-to-re-read kind of favorite, I was also quite impressed with One True Loves. It’s a unique story and one that is enough to make me want to read something else by Jenkins. Goodreads

AUTHOR DISCOVERS I ADDED (BUT DIDN’T READ) TO MY SHELF IN 2023

MARIA E. ANDREU

Julieta and the Romeos does look really cute, and that girly cover is just so fun. Goodreads

AMANDA ELLIOT

Amanda’s books (so far) seem to have a theme of food. I bough Best Served Hot, and am hopeful it’ll be a charming story. Goodreads

MARTHA KEYES

An author that has been part of some of the trending six-book by-a-different-author series, Martha’s books always look cute and cheerful, so we’ll see if that translates into good reading, too! Goodreads

GRACIE RUTH MITCHELL

Her latest cozy mystery series looks so fun! Never read anything by her, at least not that I remember, so reading these will be a fun discovery. Goodreads

SARAH MONZON

Thinking back, I think I’ve had a book by Sarah sent to me with the INSPYs program, but I don’t think I have the books anymore, so her Christmas novel was the first I picked up and am super excited about. Goodreads

EMILY SCHNEIDER

Emily’s The Heart Shot was all over Instagram when it came out. The cover art “got” me so I had to pick it up, along with its sequel The Mistletoe Bluff. Goodreads

Have you read anything by these authors? Which ones do you recommend most? Which ones would you maybe read? Comment all of your thoughts! Let’s get our book talk on.

Thank you for visiting; please come back again soon.

    1. I think the primary book by her I see is that ‘Sevens Husbands’ book but I’m glad I read something lesser known by the author because I’m not sure I’d LOVE the one she’s known for. Thanks so much for visiting, Lydia.

  1. I love Martha Keyes and Gracie Ruth Mitchell’s stories! Sarah Monzon I also like, especially her last book. Sarah Dessen is one I read back in my YA phase, and she was hit and miss. There are three I liked, but the others weren’t great, and Along for the Ride was the last one I read from her. She started feeling too preachy (but not in a religious way). I recommend Just Listen, The Truth About Forever, and This Lullaby. I’m planning to read The Heart Shot by Emily Schneider since it’s on KU.

    1. Emily’s book sounds (and looks since that’s what drew me in!) quite fun and I love all the praise for Martha’s books. And thanks for the Sarah Dessen recs! With as many novels as she’s written I really appreciate having this so I can better pick when next to try. :)

    1. I love all the love for Martha’s books (they look so fun) and I’m so intrigued by Gracie’s cozy mysteries that she’s releasing now. Also, Sarah Monzon is a well loved author but I cannot remember if I’ve ever read anything by her! I figure her Christmas novel is a good place to start. ;) Thanks so much for visiting, Cindy!

    1. I’m just so glad I actually read some of the popular authors (even at only three!) I’ve been meaning to try for a while, Deanna. Hopefully I’ll try a few more in 2024. :)

    1. I’ve had this happen before, too, Pam! I usually try to give an author a chance twice, but if I still don’t love them books after reading two, I feel like it’s best to move on. There’s always someone who likes the stories and style. :)

  2. Sarah Monzon is outstanding. I love her. I, too, just found Gracie Ruth Mitchell. She is a wonderful storyteller. And I highly recommend The Bodyguard by Katherine Center…SO good! 😀

    1. YAY! Love all the recs and book advice, Nicole. I hear great things about Sarah and Gracie’s cozy mystery series just look darling. :) And I don’t think I have “The Bodyguard” (I have Things You Save in a Fire maybe?) by Katherine so I need to pick that one up!
