‘AN AMERICAN IN AUSTEN’: LIBRARIAN GETS CHANCE TO MEET MR. DARCY
A concept that we have seen before, An American in Austen, is a cute flick worth seeing.
An American in Austen (2024) Hallmark TV Film Review
Life is simple and quiet for Harriet (Eliza Bennet). She works as a librarian who takes her task of helping people find a book seriously. Fiction and the heroes of these novels deeply matters to her. Her philosophy is that no man lives up to the importance Mr. Darcy has in her life which is perhaps why she’s also trying to write her own novel. What she never expects is getting the chance to see if this holds true when through a wish, she finds herself waking up in a carriage that brings her face to face with Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy (Nicholas Bishop) himself.

‘AN AMERICAN IN AUSTEN’: LIBRARIAN GETS CHANCE TO MEET MR. DARCY. Review of the 2024 #Hallmark channel movie #AnAmericaninAusten with #NicholasBishop. #ElizaBennet #Hallmarkies #Romance #RomCom #Loveuary Share on XThe third film in Hallmark’s Loveuary Jane Austen theme romances, An American in Austen is very reminiscent of the BBC miniseries Lost in Austen. I cannot decide if I like this or Paging Mr. Darcy (the only other I’ve seen) better. Either way, both are cute if you like Austen romance. The cast isn’t one I’m 100% wild about, but I was impressed with Hallmark newcomers Bennet and Nell Barlow. Contrary to most fans, I adore new faces in Hallmark roles. The costumes are mostly pretty though like many of the period films in this era, the atmosphere, from costumes to hair, sometimes still has too much modern flair.
Complaints aside, like anything else we feature from the network, the film is adorable. There’s plenty of appropriate longing romance, and some minor curiosity about how everything will end. What I like about this is the tiny details like opening credits with some personality or the cute date we see Harriet on which sets up the rest of the film. This one does end slightly differently, and I appreciate the charm and the comedy of the script.
You can stream An American in Austen on Hallmark Movies Now; or catch its Hallmark Channel debut on February 17, plus watch for re-air dates, too.

Content notes: apart from maybe the odd and minor suggestive remark (just relating to the modern vs 1800s world), this one is TV-G and stays within these bounds nicely with the “normal” Hallmark way.
