Even as a fairytale, some of these are different. They have different “feels” and can put us in different moods. Some make us laugh and others are wildly romantic. But the goal in any of these collections is always variety and to say this list isn’t inclusive of every film in the genre. We just cannot make space or time (in research) to share them all. Let’s see what we find.

FIFTEEN FABULOUS FAIRYTALES

THE 10TH KINGDOM

An older Hallmark Entertainment production, a young Kimberley Williams stars in this miniseries. It follows a father and daughter who discover a parallel world where the fairytale characters struggle to keep their lives in order. Based on the memory I have of this, it’s quite unusual and quirky. Stream on Freevee, Prime and Roku, at publication

ALICE

I saw this miniseries years ago and did really enjoy it! It’s inspired by Alice in Wonderland and is a kind of unique approach. Also, Caterina Scorsone, from Grey’s Anatomy, takes on the lead in this. This one isn’t readily available

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2014)

A miniseries that is perhaps lesser known, this one has all the same elements only it tells the story with more realism which means no talking candlesticks. Stream on Freevee at time of publication

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Disney has the original animated 90s film that is still loved today, but they also did remake the fable with this live action fable featuring Dan Stevens (from Downton Abbey) and Emma Watson in a role that perhaps isn’t her strongest. Stream on Disney+ or purchase on places like Apple TV

CINDERELLA

We love this Cinderella flick as a Disney live-action remake. Plus Richard Madden as the hero very much surprises me. Stream on Starz at publication or purchase on places like Apple TV

CONFESSIONS of an UGLY STEPSISTER

An old ABC TV film (remember those Wonderful World of Disney movies?), this one is a kind of spin on the Cinderella story from the stepsister’s perspective. Find this one, if possible, in a low quality Youtube video, just make sure they don’t ask for any form of payment

ELLA ENCHANTED

Fun and entertaining, this is inspired by the novel of the same name and features Anne Hathaway in the titular role. Stream on Paramount or purchase on places like Apple TV

ENCHANTED

Amy Adams plays an animated princess about to marry her love at first sight fiancé when she transports into the real world and must navigate the ups and downs of discovering real life. Stream on Disney+ or purchase on places like Apple TV

EVER AFTER

Another Cinderella retelling, this one takes more of a realistic approach featuring a narrative that shares the real story with storytellers who just don’t get the fable quite right. Popular film star Drew Barrymore plays Danielle, our Cinderella in this film. Stream on Disney+ or Hulu at publication, or purchase on places like Apple TV

A 90s film that isn’t all that popular, but also weirdly fun. It follows a mysterious woman who speaks a curious language, and claims to be a princess of a foreign country. You can find the film, at publication, with Freevee, Plex. Roku and Tubi.

PRINCE CHARMING

Christina Applegate stars in this little-known comedy about a prince and his sidekick who much convince someone to love them or their existence as frogs will remain in effect. This one isn’t readily available

SMOOCH

A Hallmark flick, this one is cute and follows a daughter (a young Kiernan Shipka plays her) who tries to set her mom up with the best mate. It’s not a typical fairy tale and is modern, but it does have elements of the fairytale themes. Stream on Plex or on Hallmark Movies Now at publication

    1. Same! It’s always so fun, and since I have seen a lot in this genre through the years, I know I’ll think of several more that should have been added to this list. :)
