POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and THIRTY
The rumor mill has been bustling for a while now about who might step into the role of James Bond. Daniel Craig left the role in 2021 after playing the role for five films across several years, which means there’s still a hole in this franchise. From Henry Cavill to Idris Elba, the names have been many, but the latest is Marvel star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Period drama news broke this past week that there’s an eight-part miniseries of The Count of Monte Cristo in the works. The series is in production now and will feature Sam Claflin (recently from Daisy Jones and the Six) as Edmond Dantes, though looking at the rest of the cast list seems to miss many of the key characters. It could just be an “under wraps” secret now, but names like Mercedes is absent from the cast list but Jeremy Irons is listed as playing Edmond’s prison guardian angel, Abbé Faria. There’s also a French language feature film adaptation set to release June of 2024, too. Does this make you excited? As someone who likes the 2000s flick (even though it’s likely very different than the Dumas novel), I’m curious about this miniseries!

Set to release in September of 2024, the Internet was atwitter this week with the first look photo (and teaser trailer, too!) of Michael Keaton alongside returning cast member Winona Ryder with new castmate Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. The film is a follow up to the 80s film Beetlejuice.
In more renewal news, Paramount+ (and CBS) has renewed their import NCIS spin off NCIS: Sydney. The first season of course ends with the reveal that someone the team clashes with may also be a bad dude. The second season will begin filming in Australia next month, making the question now, is everyone returning? AND what do we think about the teased romance between Evie and Deshawn??
Rumors keep coming about another Downton Abbey flick. This time, actress Imelda Staunton, who played in prior Downton Abbey movies, says a third and “final” movie is in the works. While appearing on BBC Radio 2, the actress confirmed a final movie, and when the host, Zoe Ball said she hopes Staunton didn’t get in trouble for saying so, the actress replied, “I don’t care.” If these rumors are true, what do you want to see in a final film?
