‘BIG SKY RIVER’: WOMAN STARTS ANEW AFTER UNEXPECTED DIVORCE
From the former Hallmark Movies and Mysteries (now Hallmark Mystery) network, Big Sky River is a fitting film for the titles they once aired. It’s a drama that follows a woman starting anew. Leaving behind the familiar is what Tara Kendall (Emmanuelle Vaugier) needs right now. She’s coming out of a messy divorce and revisiting the place in Montana where she was happy as a child is something she needs as a final part of her healing. The hardest part may be leaving behind her stepdaughter Erin (Cassidy Nugent), the girl she shares a bond with.
Settling into the life, even with some rust, meeting and befriending her next-door neighbor Boone Taylor (Kavan Smith) is the one thing Tara doesn’t expect.
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘A SCOTTISH LOVE SCHEME’ IS A MATURE ROMANCE WITH A MATCHMAKING PLOY
‘BIG SKY RIVER’: WOMAN STARTS ANEW AFTER UNEXPECTED DIVORCE. #WhenCallstheHeart's #KavanSmith stars in this #Hallmark drama. Share on XA script based on a novel and also one that deals in more emotional aspects, Big Sky River is charming, nonetheless. It’s a slightly different concept than single-mom-makes-a-big-move because in this one Tara isn’t a mom. At least not one where she gets to take her daughter with her, so that’s more interesting and adds some complexity. This is true of both the emotion and the healing of how Tara has to move on. We also see how Boone has to move on and heal too, just in a different way.
The cast is good and if you’re a fan of When Calls the Heart, you’ll enjoy seeing Kavan in the leading man role. The setting is pretty, too and while not likely filmed there, here we visit Montana. Same conclusive statement as almost any Hallmark movie applies to Big Sky River. It’s same as always, sweet and fun, too.
