Welcome back in to this webspace and to Friday, too. The day almost everyone anticipates arriving. We’re back on this fine Friday to celebrate (or be annoyed with?) some of the pop culture stories that made the entertainment headlines of this past week, the number of which isn’t very impressive. pop culture news one hundred and forty-one
✨POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and FORTY-ONE: THE RECAP OF THE WEEK✨ #AgathaChristie #PeriodDrama #Watson #BlueBloods Share on XLike usual, there is always TV show news, but I’d always like to find some other types of stories, too. Why, well, because we do enjoy some variety here. Let’s get our search engine ready and see what we come up with.
POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and FORTY-ONE
Taking the book world by storm was the announcement of yet another The Huger Games novel. A prequel novel (as the last one was), this story will follow the 50th Hunger Games, which is the one that Hyacinth competed in. The novel is titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Release is set for 2025 with Lionsgate “greenlighting” another film for November 2026.
There’s Agatha Christie adaptation news this week. Anjelica Huston and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (from Lark Rise to Candleford) will star in the BBC adaptation of Towards Zero. The three-part series is filming now and will eventually show up on BritBox for U.S. residents. Based on the novel from 1944, this was previously adapted by Acorn TV and wrote in the famous Christie character Miss Marple in an adaptation that featured an all-star cast including Greg Wise and Eileen Atkins. This series will not feature Miss Marple.
According to a presentation from Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins at an annual stockholders meeting, there could be an “extension” of Blue Bloods. While exciting to think about this premise, honestly, I’m not thrilled just because I have a feeling an offshoot would likely be a prequel like they’re doing with NCIS agent Gibbs which Mark Harmon made famous in the original NCIS series. When I know what comes later, I’m kind of bored by the ideal of prequels. But then I’m more about the present than the past right now, so that could be why. What about you? Would you watch a prequel show if that were in the works?

In the upcoming CBS drama Watson (and yes it’s about that character you think it’s about), and joining Morris Chestnut, the drama is busily padding its cast. It will also feature Eve Harlow, Inga Schlingmann (recently seen in the now cancelled So Help Me Todd) and leaving in a leading role on S.W.A.T., also cast is Rochelle Aytes.
If you saw the lovely film Ladies in Black, you may be excited to know that a six-part miniseries has been produced. The series will feature Miranda Otto, Debi Mazar and Jessica De Gouw to name a few. The story follows a group of women working in sales in the 1950s and the young Lisa, whom they take under their wing. No word yet on a release date, but the Australian series has as 2024 year date. pop culture news one hundred and forty-one
In British TV news, the Acorn TV series with Greta Scacchi, Darby and Joan has been renewed for a second year. Additionally, the crime dramedy The Mallorca Files will have a third season and on August 8 will stream on Amazon Prime.
News about a White Collar revival came up again this past week. This when three of the main cast members appeared on a panel to celebrate its fifteenth anniversary. Matt Bomer already previously said he’d be in if everything fell into place. Now Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen too said they’re in. There is a reported script that is, according to DeKay, “a fantastic script.” Will you watch?
Several headlines this week were about this week’s farewell show of longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, and the tributes to him from family (daughter) and friends (co-host Vanna White).
We now ask you to comment all of your thoughts about these stories; did they annoy? Did they make you smile? Is anything in our roundup making you curious? Leave all of your comments down in the comments section.
