MOVIES TO WATCH WITH DAD ON FATHERS DAY 2024 EDITION
If you are anything like me, through the years, you perhaps have had the confounding problem of finding fun movies to watch with dad (or really both parents) or maybe just finding movies for dad (or mom) to watch by themselves. As an adult I’ve realized that my challenge doing this is partially (though not totally) because my dad is kind of indifferent about cinema. He’s also a much different thinker than I am and so we see creative things like storytelling quite differently. Already we have two lists of fun movies to watch with dad on this site; one from 2020 and another from 2022. Regardless we will spend today looking again to see what we can find.

MOVIES TO WATCH WITH DAD ON FATHERS DAY 2024 EDITION. Features a list of movies dad may enjoy. #Dads #Fathers #FunnyMovies #ComedyMovies #GoodMovies Share on XWith differing likes and opinions, not all of these will be titles everyone will enjoy or even everyone would want to watch with dad, and that’s ok. But something about the following titles seems fitting for our list and as we’re only a week out from Father’s Day, this is the most perfect week to share these! Before we do, and even though it’s a week early, I have to give my dad a quick shout out, too. Dad, thanks for all you do and for all of the hard work you put in, and for being here to demonstrate what that looks like. Appreciate all you do. Happy father’s day!
Let’s meet some of the movies on our 2024 edition, a list we’ll try to find new films to feature, of movies to see with dad!
MOVIES to WATCH with DAD or MOVIES DAD MAY ENJOY
THE BOURNE IDENTITY (SERIES)
Rewatched these recently and am reminded they’re quite good. If one likes action pics that is. Content note: this series may require a quick fast-forward for some minor sexual content. Stream, at publication, on places like Peacock
CHARLES DICKENS ADAPTATIONS
In general, these adaptations are really good. Everything from Bleak House to David Copperfield, they’re solid adaptations from production companies like BBC or ITV. They often also feature a star studded cast albeit are also dark stories. Stream, at publications, various adaptations on places like BritBox, Masterpiece Theatre or even check Tubi TV
DOG
Channing Tatum stars in this drama about a veteran suffering from a serious brain injury who wants to return to the fight. In order to prove he can, his captain tasks him with the job of getting the dog of a deceased military man to his funeral. Stream, at publication, on Amazon Prime
ELVIS
If your dad likes historical facts or enjoys listen to some of the hits of yesteryear, he may enjoy Elvis, the popular biopic that once earned all the Oscar hype. Content note: this series may require a quick fast-forward for some minor sexual content.
THE FAMILY PLAN (APPLE TV+)
Mark Wahlberg stars in this film about a man who has a very complicated secret past that he gave up to become a family man. Content note: this film may require a quick fast-forward for some minor sexual content. Stream, at publication, on Apple TV+
HARD BALL
Keanu Reeves stars in this drama about a man buried under gambling debts who earns a second chance to live a better life, all at the hands of a little league baseball team. Stream, at publication, with Amazon, Freevee or Pluto TV
HOME TEAM
A 2022 Netflix film with Kevin James, this is inspired by a true story and is surprisingly cute and poignant. It follows a suspended but respected and talented NFL coach who takes on the most important coaching job – his twelve-year-old son’s football team. Stream on Netflix
GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE
I’ve never seen the 80s version of Ghostbusters (or its subsequent era titles), but this more modern take on the famous story is a ton of fun. I enjoy it way more than the female led film with Melissa McCarthy, and appreciate that, from what I understand, the film is a kind of extension of the originals. Something likely to make anyone who likes them feel nostalgic. Purchase on places like Apple or Amazon
JOE SOMEBODY
Tim Allen stars in this film about a man who is belittled and embarrassed in front of his daughter so he sets a time to get his payback and in the interim takes boxing lessons. A young Hayden Panettiere also co-stars. Purchase on places like Amazon Prime or Apple
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
If you like more serious or classic films (or maybe your dad does), this slow-moving drama features James Stewart as a father who tries to get back his kidnapped son. It’s also a Alfred Hitchcock film so there’s that, too. But wait, there’s more! It also has Doris Day and manages to feature her singing her famous song, too. Stream, at publication, on Amazon Prime
MOVIES TO WATCH WITH DAD ON FATHERS DAY 2024 EDITION. Features a list of movies dad may enjoy. #Dads #Fathers #FunnyMovies #ComedyMovies #GoodMovies Share on XMR. MOM
Michael Keaton stars in this 80s film about a man who, after losing his job, tries to keep the household together while his wife, after a bet, is the first to get a job. Stream, at publication, on AMC or Pluto TV
NATIONAL TREASURE
This film and its sequel (which is really a carbon copy) are quite entertaining. It’s also got a little father-son storyline. Stream, at publication, on Disney+
OCEAN’S 11
Likely either one, the old version or the newer star studded version with George Clooney may entertain dad. The film follows a heist and the con men who pull it off.
ON A WING AND A PRAYER
An inspirational film, this features Dennis Quaid as a family man who after attending a family funeral is the only one with a chance to land the small aircraft they’re travelling on when their pilot dies. Stream, at publication, on Amazon Prime
RESCUED BY RUBY
I don’t remember a great deal about this one, but it follows The Flash star Grant Gustin as he finds his purpose and partner in Ruby as the pair train to become a part of a K-9 unit. Stream on Netflix
SHAZAM!
This wouldn’t be a movie my dad would love, just because he’s not a superhero movie addict, but it’s entertaining and features a message about fathers and the importance they can have in the lives of a kid. Stream, at publication, on HBO Max
TOP GUN and TOP GUN: MAVERICK
These are obvious additions, but they’re both pretty good though I’ll admit I do like the sequel better. I think it focuses better and tells an interesting story whereas Top Gun kind of drags on without getting to good storytelling. Content note: this film may require a quick fast-forward for some minor sexual content. Stream, at publication, on Paramount+
TOOTH FAIRY
This film is quite ridiculous (and not as good as I remembered after a recent rewatch), but it still has some laughs and features Dwayne Johnson if you’re a fan of his. Stream, at publication, on Netflix
