‘GIRL HAUNTS BOY’ IS A DARLING AFTERLIFE ROMANCE
If you like something that’s seasonally appropriate to watch, but you aren’t big on creep or chills, well then Girl Haunts Boy may be what you’re looking for.
Girl Haunts Boy (2024) Film Review
Curiosity literally kills her when Bea (Peyton List) removes a ring from an off limits museum section in her 1920s world. When she leaves her school trip tour, she’s hit by a car and dies.
In present time, Cole Sanchez (Michael Cimino) is dealing with great loss. He lost his father and moving to a new place is to be a fresh start for him and his mother (Andrea Navedo from Jane the Virgin). Thing is, Cole thinks he’s going crazy when he finds a ring and by wearing it, a girl materializes. Turns out it’s Bea and this is her house, the one place she’s been stuck in since her death.

A Fifth Season production that lands on Netflix, Girl Haunts Boy is darling. It’s the perfect film to watch and enjoy during this season if you like seasonal films, but don’t enjoy the creepy films this season inspires. The one isn’t revolutionary, but its concept is cute and the sweet connection of its leads charming.
I haven’t seen Cimino in anything before, but he does sing some of the songs according to trivia. I have Peyton List in the odd teen comedy here and there including The Outcasts. It’s their scenes that keep us invested and questioning what they’ll mean to each other.
The script is heavily influenced by music and as a result has plenty of references to pop culture relating to this. The story is also fun as Cole tries to help Bea learn about all she missed. The ending isn’t traditional, and while I know what writer’s mean through their end, I also think you could create your own ending. Surprisingly, I can accept the end. It’s easy watching and that’s all some movies need to be.

If titles like 3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost or Haunted Wedding (both Hallmark) or perhaps even Casper, which isn’t one I’ve seen, are your idea of a good seasonal film, you’ll find this one enjoyable.

Content: nothing much to note. This PG film is cute and doesn’t have much of anything worth noting. There’s conversation about death and maybe a minor slang or two. But again, it’s wholesome.
