‘HOLIDAY TOUCHDOWN: A CHIEFS LOVE STORY’ TELLS A FOOTBALL ROMANCE!

Using a certain cultural headline obsessed love story as inspiration (we’re all thinking it), Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story is cute and of course, the quintessential Hallmark Christmas movie.

As she tells us, there is no greater Kansas City Chiefs fan than Alana (Hunter King). It’s in her blood. Both sides of her family are obsessed with the team and it was two gifts of season tickets that brought her mother and father (Megyn Price, Diedrich Bader) together. What has Alana most excited this year is the chance that her family could win fan of the year award. Enter Derrick Taylor (Tyler Hynes), the director of fan engagement for the team.

This contest introduces Alana and Derrick which begins an unexpected story for both of them.

Whether the film attributes them or not, we all know a large reason why this film was made is the media flurry that is the romance of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift (don’t we think Derrick’s last name is purposeful?). Also an inspiration is the curiosity that is the Kelce family in general which earns Donna Kelce (mother of Travis) a role. Beyond the KC feature, which is a little too much, this film is actually really good.

There is a more natural progression of interest between the leads and how Alana and Derrick handle the nosy family. I will admit that parents meddling and (literally) watching a couple is a pet peeve of mine, however if the situation is right, I can deal. In Holiday Touchdown, I handle it. Probably in part because I really like Hunter and Tyler; this is the film film they have paired in, but I enjoyed them both. There is a solid cast surrounding them including Ed Begley Jr and Christine Ebersole. There are also probably other nods to the Chiefs that I don’t get since I’m not a fan. I love that Hallmark makes fun of themselves now but don’t love the whole superstitious bit (though I get it goes hand in hand with sports). Still, even missing some of this, I still thoroughly enjoy this.

This Christmas movie is sweet. It’s maybe the network film with the most hype title of this 2024 season. Although it fumbles here and there (I had to), it’s worth the attention.

Check, at publication, for Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story to be next day streaming on Peacock.
