‘A ‘90S CHRISTMAS’ WISHING FOR ALL OF THE NOSTALGIA
Trying to recapture some of the concept that plays so well for them in their latest TV drama, Hallmark gives us A ’90s Christmas and is a good time.

Working towards the goal of partner is all Lucy (Eva Bourne) ever seems to want. She has big plans, and this is just the next step in her career path. Achieving this has meant not going home for Christmas and working overtime. This Christmas gives her partnership, but she continues to work. Things slow down and change when, during a ride share, she meets a unique driver who gives her a trip to the past, and shows her the things she’s maybe missing.

Given the popularity that is The Way Home, this film is one that also takes a page out of the past. In one way I love this type of storytelling but in another, I don’t. I like that by A ’90s Christmas revisiting the past there is no (or little) tech and that we actually have to engage with each other and ask questions rather than run to a search engine. However I am also a firm believer that obsessing over the past is unhealthy. Irrespective of this, surprisingly, this film is cute.
There’s so much of the usual cheerfulness and iconic (by now) moments like ice skating or the overzealous decor, which means this will enchant plenty of viewers. There’s even a cute no mistletoe kiss as well. It’s fun to see Eva Bourne in something new and playing leading lady well. Funnily enough, Alex Hook also co-stars in this who is one of the lead stars in The Way Home. Anyone that enjoys seasonal movies will (yes I’ll say it again) enjoy this.
