‘LA DOLCE VILLA’ IS SWEET BUT SIMPLE

With a concept that mirrors another film from streaming giant Netflix, La Dolce Villa is still a sweet movie ideal for Valentine’s Day if the plan is a night in.

La Dolce Villa (2025) Netflix Film Review

Successful at business, Eric (Scott Foley) travels to Italy with one goal. He has plans to convince his daughter (Maia Reficco) that she shouldn’t be putting everything into restoring a villa she purchases in Italy. After all, the place is more than just a little run down. He approaches this from a practical perspective never anticipating that Olivia may have bigger dreams than his practicality can overcome or that the beauty of Italy may charm him in more than just one way.

Taking a similar approach to other films I’ve seen from Netflix or just others outside of their library. La Dolce Villa is a film that is quite similar to Find Me Falling, which is another title that is “at home” on Netflix. The film’s one “big” thing is Scott Foley who is popular because of his character in Felicity, and later a few other TV shows, too. Irrespective of my petty complaints, the film is fun. It’s a sweet yet simple title that has nice scenes and some poignant moments, too.

The setting is gorgeous (naturally!) and the scenes that we get to see as we “hang” out with Olivia as she shows her dad Italy is lovely. The film is a kind of renovation story both literally and emotionally, and the latter of course adds depth as the surface DIY shows change. The script is the type we know all too well in that it presents answers before we see the solutions.

It’s all charming and sweet and of course, is a title with characters we easily root on and for. La Dolce Villa is worth seeing especially if you’re looking for something romantic to watch on Valentine’s Day, because yes, this does also have the inevitable dash of romance, too.

Stream, at publication, exclusively on Netflix

Content: nothing to note here outside of some flirting or minor profanity. A couple does have sex (all the camera shows is them lying together in bed). The film is PG.
