TEN OF THE BOOK AND READER THINGS I’M THANKFUL FOR

For the past several weeks, I’ve been working on things behind the scenes around here. From deleting old posts (like giveaways, monthly wrap-ups or old book lists) to reviving some, and other things, it’s been a process. I’m done with the “first round” (presumably the most difficult) which was time consuming. All this to say, I’m revisiting this post which is one I unpublished from 2013! As a result, we have a slightly easier publication today as we are talking about ten things to be thankful for, and part of the reason I’m thankful is that I can finally say I made it through that first round! So, part of the reason I’m thankful today is because of this.

TEN OF THE BOOK AND READER THINGS I’M THANKFUL FOR. Talking about #Reader and #Book things I'm #Thankful for! #Grateful #Books #Book Share on X

This week, quite appropriately, we’re talking all about the book or reader things to be thankful for.

TEN THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR

of the reader and writing kind

THE 1/2 STAR RATING

This is a thing I had on my list from over ten years ago (working off the post we’re reviving here) and it’s silly, yes. But sometimes that 1/2 star makes all the difference when rating books

ACCOMPLISHING GOALS aka WORK

As I said in the opening, I managed to accomplish “round one” of behind the scene work here and I’m so grateful. I want to be completely done by the year’s end. I’ve haven’t touched the work in a week now, so it’s time to get back at that task.

AUTHORS

Without them, what would stories look like? There are too many talented writers to name, so I’m just lumping storytellers and authors together.

GOOD BOOKS

Obvious, yes, but still, how dull would life be without good books…?

LAPTOPS

Without my trusty HP laptop computer (of which there’s been more than one through the years), I am not sure where I’d be! The poor things gets a lot of use with all my review typing (plus pulls double duty playing some silly ½ show in the corner) and I’m so happy such a thing was ever invented.

PS; do you have any laptop recs? I should get a new one but the ones I pick are always, well, more expensive (love that for me) because I like the bigger 17″ screen. With shopping deals, I wondered if you’ve seen any amazing deals.

TEN OF THE BOOK AND READER THINGS I’M THANKFUL FOR. Chatting the book and reader things I’m thankful for.

PUBLICISTS

I’ve been in touch with some awesome publicists through the years who always seem to go the “extra mile” to get author’s books in readers hands and I really appreciate not only that they arrange to send these books to readers, but that they contact you with titles you may be interested in featuring, too.

REVIEWS

Always grateful for reviews because when I curate lists, I try to feature books that have more PG-13 content (just because) and I’m not a fan of certain themes (like horror or graphic anything from violence to an f-word every other sentence, or multiple deaths) so it’s nice to have reviews and be able to browse them if you need help in the “knowing what we like” as a reader.

WRITING

While I’m not good at the art of writing, I am thankful for it. It’s always one of my most favorite things to do even though I stay up way too late on some nights to batch write things.

YOU

I’m so grateful to all of you for taking the time to make this weekly list, or to anyone who visits outside of these lists, one of your stops.

We all have things on our busy to-do lists, and hopefully many happy life things as well, so I appreciate that you take the time to visit. Shouting out just a few who are here each week would include Cindy, Leah, Lindsey, Lydia, Susan, Vero, and if I’m missing anyone, it’s not an on purpose. It’s just a neglectful mind. No matter what, whether you’re here every week or just once in a while, I’m grateful… also just anyone who visits, too; thank you.

What types of things are you most grateful for? Which things made your list? What things outside of reading or books exist on your lists? Comment all of your thoughts below!

Thank you for visiting; please return again soon!

  1. Good job getting through your first round of clean-up work. It can be very time consuming and frustrating when you have to do it. Earlier this year, I took the time to remove links from my posts that were no longer valid. This meant that some posts had to be completely removed. It makes me sad, as I spent a lot of time and energy on those posts. But it’s better for my blog to have them gone.

    1. I feel that, Pam. Some days I wonder if I should just “let it go” and move on with other projects or creative outlets, but as of now I’m still here. It DOES hurt to let go of some posts because as you said, so much work was put into them. For me, what hurts most are discussion topics (because I tend to overthink those) and features like five favorite romance scenes between a TV couple or something (these are SO time consuming). Still, some I’ll revive through the year and try to rewrite. So we’ll see how some of that goes! Either way, I agree. It is good to do a “deep clean” and I think I even read an SEO advice post once that said everyone should clean out now and then. :)

  2. Awww, thanks for the shout out! I love TTT. It’s such a fun opportunity to hop around the book blogging community and support each other. I also love having so many reviews available because I also don’t want to waste time on books I’m not going to like. It helps to see what other people are saying about them.

Also, the 1/2 star is NOT silly. It drives me INSANE that I can’t use them on Goodreads. Grrr. So annoying.

    Happy TTT!

    1. It is a fun day of the week! Always neat to visit other’s lists and see what everyone is sharing. :)

Totally agree; even if there are aspects of a novel I’d enjoy, I still would rather read a book that I love 80% of versus a book I only like 40% of. That’s why I appreciate so many reviews. Does GR still now allow the 1/2 star!? I haven’t been keeping up with reviews lately so I wasn’t sure but I did remember from the past that they didn’t. Pretty sure that should be an EASY add given all the tech we now have. ;)

…and thank you for always making the time to visit here and so many other blogs!

  3. First of all, thank you so much for the shoutout! I always love seeing your lists, and you always introduce me to new books I haven’t heard of. I’m also really grateful to the publishers and publicists who work so hard to get books to the readers that are likely to love them. I know a few publishing contacts who go above and beyond, and they absolutely deserve our thanks.

    1. Publicists and publishers do deserve all the shout-outs! I’m so grateful anytime I get an email about a new book though I’ll admit only the ones that interest me really get my attention. :) Thank you so much for always visiting and for being willing to chat and share your thoughts!

  4. Aw, thanks for the shoutout! When you said you were cleaning out old posts my immediate thought is “We have to do that?!” LOL. I am pretty sure I won’t be, but it’s nice to know I can, or maybe even should, LOL! Yes, it would be FABULOUS to be able to leave a 1/2 star rating, I am pretty sure StoryGraph lets you, but Goodreads will always be my #1 review platform (not retail). I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

    1. Thank you for always chatting and stopping by. :)

I read somewhere (a long time ago so maybe they say something new now!), that deleting old posts or irrelevant things helps with SEO. But given how much things change, who knows! I think it can help with load time too and of course, there are broken links or irrelevant links too! But it’s time consuming so I say if someone doesn’t want to, don’t worry about it. :) I haven’t really been using GR, but I used to ALL the time! Thanks, Cindy – you too! Hope your holiday is great.

        1. I have tried to publish any giveaways of mine separate because then it’s “easier” to delete that versus try to fix an entire book review or other post to reflect that there isn’t a giveaway now. But no matter what, while I haven’t enjoyed the time it’s taken to do all of this (and I’m still working on things), I am glad to know the end result is a “cleaner” space. It feels kind of like that inevitable spring cleaning we all do. ;)

  5. This is such a sweet list! Thanks for the shoutout. I’m definitely with you on the 1/2 star ratings, I do them all the time because sometimes a book is better than a 4 but not quite a 5, and the 1/2 makes all the difference. I’m also thankful for my laptop, though I didn’t think too much about it until I read your post :)

    1. I enjoyed making this although it HELPED that I repurposed (with additions) a list that I had published over ten years ago. :) I’m so grateful that you all visit and yes for a laptop too! I’m old fashioned and still like to write on a laptop versus a phone so I’ve always been glad to have one.

  6. Such a lovely post. I would say I’m thankful for much of the same things that you are. I’m also thankful for my family, my cats, and all things knitting.

I prefer a Dell. I don’t remember what version mine is but that’s what I’ve always used for blogging.

    1. I’ve been looking at Dell this past week! I’m trying to decide what to get because I’ve always been fine with HP (though I don’t have much to compare it to!) so I have the feeling of “why change” but we also have a much older “off brand” laptop that has worked fine too. So now it’s all about decision AND cringing at prices, too. ;)
