As we often do, we look to silly or fun holidays for inspiration. This time it’s national photographer day which made us think, who are the creative photographer characters we’ve met? Or are there even any? I’m guessing the answer to this is yes, so we’re going to dig in and see what we find.

My aunt was always the family get-together photographer too and as a result, we have hundreds of snapshots she took through the years. Needless to say, photo played a big part of my childhood years, so writing about characters who are photographers is fun. However, trying to think of characters who fit this in a cursory way brings to mind only one character. And she’s from a Hallmark film and a character Meghan Ory plays. My sense though is, there has to be a few more we can find though. So let’s see who else we’ll meet.

ABBY from THE HOLIDAY CALENDER
A Netflix Christmas flick, this is one from a few years ago that I watched, but don’t remember. Still, I have little doubt that it’s a cute movie and if I’m remembering right, it’s a best friends fall in love trope.
ALLIE ADAMS from PICTURE PERFECT MYSTERIES
A Hallmark character (though not the one I originally remembered), Alexa PenaVega plays Allie in a role of photographer who owns her own business and on the side helps the new detective (played by her real life husband Carlos) solve crimes.
HOLLY from WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING
Jennifer Lopez’s character in this is a child photographer wishing for a family of her own. While I think the title is kind of annoying (yes I know it’s based on the book), this film is surprisingly sweet.
JAKE from A PICTURE OF HER
Another Hallmark flick, this one has Tyler Hynes playing the photographer who takes a photo during his freelance work that mistakably goes viral.
JESSE from ONE TRUE LOVES
If I’m remembering rightly, Jesse from One True Loves likes (or is?) a photographer. The film is also one I surprisingly like and I also don’t loathe Jesse’s character… but am I supposed to?

I cannot believe I didn’t remember this character right away given I just watched Rear Window (for the first time). A mystery from Alfred Hitchcock, the film follows a photographer who is stuck in his apartment after an injury sidelines him.
LINA from LOVE & GELATO
She’s not a photographer in the traditional or professional sense, but Lina does pick up a camera while visiting Italy and tries to rediscover her mother by walking her footsteps and through the camera, she finds herself and shifts her perspective.
CAMERON KWELLER from HE’S ALL THAT
An amateur photographer, Cameron is the lead male character in this gender bent remake of She’s All That. Stream exclusively on Netflix
THOM from TAKE ME HOME
This indie film is surprisingly charming and features a hero who works as a taxi cab driver because he is unable to find inspiration with his photography.
CHLOE SULLIVAN from THE MEMORY BOOK
It’s been years since I watched this Hallmark drama, but Meghan Ory plays Chloe, a woman who finds photography subjects over people the safe way to live her life as it allows her to distance herself from connections.
