‘TWISTERS’ HAS COOL EFFECTS AND IS GOOD ENTERTAINMENT
As THE summer film everyone wanted to see, Twisters is an entertaining film that has plenty of adrenaline but also emotional fallout.
Twisters (2024) Film Review
Chasing storms is something Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) loves. She does this alongside her boyfriend and a small group of friends. For her though, it means more. It’s about understanding storms and helping people. When tragedy strikes and Kate is one of two team survivors, her world shatters. She leaves behind Oklahoma for New York looking to get away from pain and memories. During this time, Kate creates a new world for herself working still in weather but from the safety of an office. When the other survivor, Javi (Anthony Ramos) finds her in New York, it’s like confronting her past. He talks her into returning to Oklahoma to help him and his team with a business project.
This also brings her into the life of self-described tornado wrangler Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), the public face of the “hillbillies from Arkansas with a YouTube channel.” Or that’s what some of Javi’s team thinks of Tyler. When literal forces of nature put Tyler and Kate together, braving new storms becomes their reality.
FILM REVIEW | ‘THE FALL GUY’ IS A GOOD TIME POPCORN FLICK
‘TWISTERS’ HAS COOL EFFECTS AND IS GOOD ENTERTAINMENT. Review of the 2024 favorite #Twisters with #DaisyEdgarJones, #GlenPowell and #AnthonyRamos. #Movies #PopcormMovie #GoodMovie #GoodMovies Share on XEveryone was seeing this movie back when it released and while I did almost try to make plans to see it, I didn’t and as it turns out, that’s okay. The film is streaming now (though it’s been available to digitally rent or purchase) and as is normally the case with popular movies, I outwait that period until the film comes to something I already pay for. This time it’s Peacock TV the streamer that gets to feature 2024’s favorite, Twisters.
This movie is, well, good. It’s one of those films that everyone saw and then there was me. It’s also one of those films that no one really knew what it was. Is it a reboot? Sequel? Remake? It is of course a film that comes nearly thirty years after Twister, the film that introduced us to Jo and her not-so-ex husband Bill, a pair of storm chasers. This film is similar in many ways with a tragic backstory and a dedicated group of people looking for a scientific breakthrough as to the why of tornadoes.
FILM REVIEW | FIVE REASONS ‘TWISTER’ IS STILL AN AMERICAN CLASSIC
The team here is likable though it’s mostly Kate we get to know. The film also allows her to feature in the climax scene which everyone should understand is an important thing for her character given her backstory. The cast is also really good even popular star Glen Powell, who I suspect some will be tired of seeing. I enjoyed how everyone performs and while we don’t really know them, I also like the camaraderie and loyalty between the members of Tyler’s team. Then there is the controversy about the kiss.
Surprisingly, I think the way the romance is handled is delicate and very good. Some will see it as non-existent, and that’s fair (I wouldn’t tag this as a romance), but there is subtlety that goes beyond just a new relationship, and I love how it all plays out. The ending is also ridiculously cute. If you aren’t made anxious about cool effects that lead to destruction or you enjoyed Twister (or probably even a film like San Andreas), then Twisters is a must see! It’s fun and yet still understands the seriousness of its topic, and the cast is fabulous, too.
You can stream Twisters, at publication, with Peacock; or digitally rent or purchase on places like Prime Video. The film is also available on BluRay or DVD.

Content: there’s nothing to note outside of the tense scenes of people trying to survive the storms (we see people or trucks or debris flying away) or chasing them. There’s no real profanity (maybe something minor) or sexual content. The film is PG-13.
