COZY FEEL-GOOD SHOWS TO WATCH IF YOU LIKE ‘VIRGIN RIVER’
If you read any kind of entertainment or pop culture news, you have probably been seeing a certain streaming show making splashy headlines. The sixth season of Virgin River recently dropped on Netflix and with it, there’s much talk about behind the scenes moments, the best things about this sixth year (including the much hyped wedding between the central couple) and speculation of what’s to come in the already renewed next season. Since this is a show popular and loved, we are going to look at Virgin River watchalikes or shows to watch if you like Virgin River. All of this is, of course, to help ease the sting of our binge watch having come and gone.

Of course, in six years, she builds a life and makes new friends which include her once adversarial co-worker, Doctor Mullins, a local bar owner Jack, busybody and ex of the doc, Hope. Many other characters enter and leave the lives of these characters and we love and loathe them.
In hopes of finding something that will help tide Virgin River fans over, we’re collecting this list of shows to watch if you like Virgin River. Shows that, yes, we know aren’t exclusively cozy. Hopefully a group that feature popular as well as underrated shows.
SHOWS to WATCH if you LIKE VIRGIN RIVER
and by the use of ‘cozy’ in the title, we’re saying that most of the titles we’re ascribing this too do get a bit gritty here and there. however, some of them do, like Virgin River, contain delightfully cozy moments and charm.
BRAMWELL
This one chronicles the life of a woman in the 1800s who is a pioneer for female doctors. If you don’t like the grittier side of medical ailments or the darker side of Virgin River, this one is probably best left alone as it’s one that isn’t, well, cozy in the strictest sense.

CALL the MIDWIFE
A BBC show, this one follows a group of midwives (as the title tells us) who change through the seasons, but their dedication to helping people remains the same. The show is set in the fifties and is now nearly into the seventies… I think! I used to faithfully watch this, and was always impressed, but then I got into a kind of need-happy-things feeling and so I let this one go. Don’t get me wrong, it has lots of feel-good bits and moments, but there is also tears too. Regardless of this and my lack of watching it now, it was really good, and I did see multiple seasons. Miranda Hart is just one of the talented names who appears for a number of seasons.

CEDAR COVE
A Hallmark show that lasted for three years, this follows Andie MacDowell’s Olivia, a judge who lives in a small town. We also meet her adult daughter and someone who is a possible new love interest for Olivia. And now I’m wondering, did they even end up together in the end?

CHESAPEAKE SHORES
There really isn’t anything that is medical in this, same as with Cedar Cove, but it’s still a cozy, small town type story that fits. It’s about five siblings who all pursue different careers, but wind up living in the place their father still lives.

DOC MARTIN
This is a British comedy that is perhaps more comedic than Virgin River, but is still a decent fit. It follows a cranky surgeon boasting accolades all of which have kind of gone to his head. When he’s forced to move to a small town, he struggles to fit in and deal with unusually nosy patients.

EVERWOOD
A show from the 90s, I’ve seen two or three (or so) episodes of this show featuring Treat Williams as a widowed father (and doctor) who moves his family to a small Colorado community.

HART of DIXIE
Funnier than Virgin River, this one is about an accomplished doctor who travels to and begins to work in a small Southern town where she’s quite the misplaced new resident.

This one season show has William Baldwin playing a widower and search and rescue commander who moves his family to a small town in hopes of helping them all heal.

A drama with Melina Kanakaredes, this one has her playing a doctor who moves back home to help care for younger siblings.

SULLIVAN’S CROSSING
Set in a small town, this Canadian drama has Scott Patterson and Chad Michael Murray starring in a drama about a woman who sets up a practice in the small town after scandal plagues her promising career.

WHERE the HEART IS
A show set in Europe, this is one I’ve never heard of. It follows medical professionals as they work and fight for the well being of their respective patients. The show, from what I’ve seen, is very soapy, but let’s be real, Virgin River can be at times, too. This one deals in illicit affairs (including underage) and morally grey areas like hastening death for a patient in agonizing pain.
