‘THE 5-YEAR CHRISTMAS PARTY’ IS A FUN TIME AND AN UNUSUAL FRIENDSHIP

With its unique title and a fun concept to go with it, The 5-Year Christmas Party is another movie I can add to my watched 2024 Christmas movie list.

The 5-Year Christmas Party (2024) TV FILM REVIEW

Trying to make decisions and choices in the question of what’s next after graduating from college is the present for Alice (Katie Findlay). But the thing is, she’s part of a group of friends who are having similar choices to make alongside her. Then there is Max (Jordan Fisher). Alice has a bit of a crush on Max, a guy who is also a rival in their mutual love of theater, but she’s focused and as such has no time for romance. Even after a magical kiss in the snow…

What does happen is the two form a friendship over the course of five years as they meet again each Christmas season while working a temporary job with a catering company.

The 5-Year Christmas Party is one of those movies that has a more unique plot than most of the films that air this season. It has a great energy and the production is pretty solid. I think the first can be attributed to the cast (neither of whom are stars we see all the time on Hallmark) and the second to the cute little transitions showing the passage of time. Katie Findlay has been a favorite newer face in these romance movies since seeing her in Sealed with a List, and Jordan Fisher isn’t someone I’ve seen in much, but he’s good in what he’s in.

What I enjoy most about this one is the cuteness that is the awkwardness between the characters. Based on social media and conversation, most viewers find it awkward between characters off-putting. While I understand this and think it can go too far, there is also an argument to be made for this working since it’s relatable.

Entertaining and festive and full of silliness that we enjoy in a Christmas movie, but also some surprisingly good romantic moments, The 5-Year Christmas Party is a fun watch if you don’t want the usual formula.

Content: If it bothers you, there is a possible suggestion that one character likes the same-sex and we see him with a partner in a few scenes. The film has a few kisses, like usual and has a TV-G rating.
