‘RECIPE FOR LOVE’ HAS GOOD FOOD AND FUN CHARACTERS
A film that is, by now, over ten years old, this one has chefs but does the trope in a more unique way. Let’s look back on Recipe for Love as we add this one to our archives.
Recipe for Love (2014) Hallmark TV Film Review
Culinary school ambitions is something Lauren Hennessey (Danielle Panabaker) takes seriously. She wants to get out of testing other people’s recipes and start her own professional career. She excels at the things she puts her mind to and loves the technical side of cooking. Then she receives a task that just may put her talents to the test, while also providing a way to attend school.
She is partnered with Dexter Durant (Shawn Roberts), a celebrity chef who is stubborn and quite different in how he forms his recipes. This ends up causing the two colleagues to clash even as they have a deadline to meet.

After she was a Disney Channel star but before she stepped into the iconic shoes of Caitlin Snow, Danielle Panabaker featured in Recipe for Love, a fun TV romance. It’s a film that I saw years ago, but it’s been a while. The concept is cute, and I like that we get a glimpse into seeing how Lauren’s spunk started and understand more of why she is how she is. Danielle is fun in the role and she plays a foodie well. You’ll also see many other familiar faces including Pascale Hutton.
This script leans more into the loathe-to-more trope, especially in comparison to how the films do this writing today. Regardless of this, they both come to have respect for each other and it’s all done in a ninety-minute fun little flick, a film that does have a bit more sexiness (by Hallmark standards) with a shirtless hero and a baking scene. There is still a lot of fun to discover, and the characters are, easy to like. There are charming moments and of course, lots of yummy looking food things, too. The big flaw is the final act dramatics (but it’s also done better because rather than just argue, it’s about staying), but again this one is cute.
So, if you like Danielle Panabaker or the network, then Recipe for Love is worth watching.

Content: there really isn’t anything to note outside of some kisses or a shirtless dude (if this bothers you) twice. The film is TV-G.
