Finding her voice in the police department isn’t easy for Darby Spencer (Stacey Farber). While she gets to work with her best friend, she is tired of not being taken seriously when she shares her insights. So one day she decides she’s done. She quits on the same day she discovers her boyfriend isn’t loyal to her. Desperate she goes back to the one place she didn’t expect to be again… home.
Her mother isn’t a person Darby gets along with. Victoria Spencer (Lea Thompson) is everything Darby isn’t. She’s successful and has notoriety as a best-selling and beloved author. Having her daughter back makes Victoria happy, but underneath this she’s hiding the struggle she’s having writing her next book. Meanwhile, Darby feels like a kid again and as if her mother is incapable of seeing her as an adult. Their squabbles get sidelined temporarily when they fall into helping an old friend of Darby’s disprove the accusation she plagiarized her paper.

The show is entertaining although it does fall into the usual detective agency tropes, it also stands on its own two feet. The primary reason for this being teaming a duo who won’t potentially fall into a romance. As a result, I do have to compliment The Spencer Sisters on being cute. There’s still the usual bickering though.
The show only had ten episodes before CTV opted not to renew it. Now with Hallmark+ picking up the show there is, of course, always the possibility that a second season could be optioned, but time will tell if this becomes a thing.

Content: this one shows a dead body a time or not (not every case is about a death or murder). If it bothers you, there is a same-sex couple, and we see them together often. There are kisses here and there. There are mentions to sex, but it’s rare.
