‘LOVE ON THE DANUBE: ROYAL GETAWAY’ MOVIE REVIEW

The second film in a trio of Hallmark+ exclusives, Love on the Danube: Royal Getaway is a familiar concept, but it’s nonetheless still sweet.

One year later and Ava (Jessica Sipos) is still protecting a broken heart. A week before her wedding, the engagement is off. Now, just as her wedding cruise is set to expire, taking the trip is the encouragement she gets for healing, while taking a chance to meet new people. Across the world, a man who likes to have fun, Josef (Dan Jeannotte) is set to take over the family business. Only the family business isn’t normal, his is to take the throne. Like pretty much anything you’ll find with the network branding that is Hallmark, Love on the Danube: Royal Getaway is a cute and fun adventure flick. What helps this one be more fun is the cruise element, yes, but also seeing our lead couple adventure outside the floating temporary home they are on. The story is more interesting because there is more to see and experience because of this. The architecture is stunning and allows for some really pretty scenes.

Adding to the appeal of this is the cast. Jessica is loved from the former show Chesapeake Shores, and Dan has been in many TV romance films. While some of the scenes don’t feel necessary and seem like unnecessary fillers, the film is still charming and of course, the royal trope plays up in ways beyond just someone being royal. The drama is way too much for my preference, but again, we forgive this because the films are dang cute. Regardless, Love on the Danube: Royal Getaway is a good time and while it’s the only one I’ve seen in this trio of ‘Danube’ movies, it probably won’t be the last I see.

Content: this film is very much the standard TV-G movie rating. Nothing to note in this one outside the usual kiss or two.
