‘PICTURE THIS’ PRIME VIDEO REVIEW: SNAPSHOT OF REUNION LOVE STORY

Placing a popular new ‘it’ girl actress at the forefront, Picture This, perhaps doesn’t reinvent anything, but it’s still a cheerfully good time.

Picture This (2025) Prime Video Film Review

Running a photography studio is all that Pia (Simone Ashley) has in her life plan. She hasn’t met anyone special and she doesn’t have anyone on the horizon, but she doesn’t want anyone. At least this is what she tells her mum. Her studio is struggling, so along with her bestie and business partner, Jay (Luke Fetherston), she has time to date. She just doesn’t. Her sister is about to marry, which puts pressure on Pia from her mother to find her soulmate. When she’s told that she’ll meet her person on one of her next five dates.

This then sets into motion a series of events Pia is loathe to experience. Things get awkward when Charlie (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) walks back into her life, the ex she didn’t expect to see again.

This is one of those rom-com movies that doesn’t reinvent the tropes or take on a new role in the genre. However, it’s also a delightfully charming title that makes us smile and laugh, all while giving us characters with sublime accents. The faces that go with these accents is of course Simone Ashley who is loved from a certain Netflix period drama, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin who has popularity from the ‘After’ dramas. I like them both in this role and expect I’ll be seeing Simone Ashley make a splash in more films, in a wide range of genres.

FILM REVIEW | ‘BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY’ IS A FINAL CHAPTER

Reminding me of the early 2000s flick Lucky 7, this film is one of the romantic comedy movies (in the last five years) that I consider a favorite. It moves fast and is charming, too. It gives us a character trying to make a go of life (which means the presenting heroine is someone we can relate to) while also allowing a fairy tale through the reunion love story. Picture This is a title that, easily, falls into the ranks of favorites in my new titles list (think What’s Love Got to Do with It? or This Time Next Year). This one also brings to mind another Prime Video title which is Five Blind Dates, and is another cute one (and this one copies) if you enjoy this.

If you’re looking for a fun new movie to enjoy during your weekend in or even just on one of those long days you’re going to stay in and want to unwind, well this is a good pick. Again, the film copycats others already out there, but it still charms and the declaration scene will charm you to bits. The film makes us laugh and of course, there is the typical family angle too which causes chaos, but also cuteness.

Content: There is more than one sexual joke (about threesomes and other types of sex) but they are pretty infrequent. The script contains several uses of the F-word along with shit. Amazon rates this one 16+ which I’m guessing represents more of an R-rating. One character prefers the same sex if this bothers you, and there are infrequent comments about how the person dates or what they do (physically) when on dates.
