When Hope Calls (2025) TV Show Review
Travelling a long distance, Nora Anderson (Cindy Busby) arrives in Brookfield to attend to some personal business with one of the town’s best loved residents. A lawyer by profession, the independent Nora has had a fine life and she’s good at what she does. But seeing Lillian Walsh (Morgan Kohan) again brings up many memories. In Brookfield, she’s not the only newcomer. Also arriving is Michael (Christopher Russell), a man about to take up the post of constable.
These newcomers make a surprising impact on this small town that they begin to think of as a special place…

A TV show that fans are quite excited to see return, When Hope Calls is a return that also may inspire confusion. This is for two reasons. The first is that its first season (ten episodes and from 2019) made its debut on another network with a primary cast list including Morgan Kohan and Jocelyn Hudon. Now its primary cast includes Busy and Russell (who are frequent screen partners), they play new characters. Alongside them their season two co-stars include Nick Batemen and Trevor Donovan. Of course, in a two part Christmas special, this show has already debuted on GAF.
The rest of the show is finally dropping now with the introduction of all these new characters as well as some returning faces as well. The opening two minutes do recap where everyone in season one is now, physically or emotionally. It’s the kind of show that brings more than just the “usual” new chapter any new seasons brings. The show is, as you may expect from a series inspired by a Janette Oke book series (though I hardly think calling these adaptations is fair), sweet and wholesome. The added benefit of familiar faces in an established town I am sure is helpful, too.
Not a show I will be likely to keep up with, When Hope Calls has an established audience and will, I am sure, delight them all along with drawing some newcomers, too. It’s ideal for anyone who likes simple and sweet TV shows that have hopeful stories with a little romance, too.
Stream, at publication, When Hope Calls season two on Great American PureFlix; or catch the show’s network debut on Great American Family beginning this Sunday and airing on Sunday’s until its sixth episode finale.
Content: This one is TV-G and outside of a kiss or two, the show, at least in this first 2025 episode, doesn’t abuse its rating.
