Hello there, and welcome back to RissiWrites.com! On this fine Friday we are recapping the biggest pop culture-y stories from this week. Which can either mean there is a lot to talk about or we struggle to find enough stories (at least interesting ones!) to fill space. Let’s see what we find. pop culture news 184

ABC handed out big season renewals for some key shows. These include renewing 9-1-1 for season nine; The Rookie will be back for its eighth year; Will Trent returns for its fourth (how is this one on four years already!?); and the freshman Tim Allen and Kat Dennings comedy Shifting Gears gets a second season. There is still a couple (like the much buzzed show Doctor Odyssey) ABC shows still awaiting renewal, but time will tell if they’ll be back.

This past week Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video through Reese Witherspoon gave fans a “first look” at Lexi Minetree in the upcoming Amazon MGM production that is Elle. The prequel series will chronicle the life of Elle Woods, the role Reese Witherspoon made famous in the 2001 feature Legally Blonde, as a teenager will revolve around her life as a high school student. Presumably this will also mean in exclusion of some of the characters we love from the feature given Elle meets them at college. We will see her parents again, this time played by Tom Everett Scott and June Diane Raphael.

June 15th will mark the return of the Masterpiece Mystery! on PBS drama Grantchester. This will be its tenth season where Robson Green returns as Geordie, and Rishi Nair as Alphy. Other returning faces will also be seen. According to the announcement, this season will follow the pair as they “support each other through changing times, family struggles, and personal secrets.” The press release further says that in “this season, Alphy feels like he’s found a home, but he’s forced to confront secrets he’s kept close to his chest. Will he be able to let anyone fully in, or must he confront truths about himself first?” Sounds intriguing, right?? If you’re curious to watch seasons one through nine (I recommend this show!), you can stream Grantchester Seasons 1-9 now with PBS Passport, an added member benefit. Watch online and on the free PBS app.

The anticipated When Hope Calls made its season season debut this week. It dropped on Great American Family Pure Flix and will debut Sunday on the GAF network. If you have the streamer, you can watch episode one now, and we shared our thoughts, too.

Also this week, The Sound of Music celebrated its 60th anniversary! We celebrated by sharing (a week before) a list of reasons to still love this one and also finally put a review in our archives. How much do you still adore this film?

Let’s talk. Did you follow any of these? Which ones were more interesting to you? Which ones seem more annoying? Did you follow any I didn’t mention? Comment all of the pop culture thoughts below! Let’s talk.
