‘THE BETTER SISTER’: A DARK MYSTERY FROM PRIME VIDEO
A TV drama with two big female stars, Prime Video introduces us to The Better Sister, an adaptation of the novel with the same name.
The Better Sister (2025) Prime Video TV Show Review
Having it all is something Chloe (Jessica Biel) has built. She’s got the perfect lawyer husband named Adam (Corey Stoll) who takes a lot of meetings. Then there is Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan), the stepson she has known for most of his life. But the thing is, while she may show society that she does look together, what she doesn’t show them is she struggles.
Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) is the sister who is a mess. She has a drug history and no real steady work or stability. The sisters don’t talk despite the extremely complicated past… and then everyone’s world shifts…
Adam is murdered and the investigation, and the aftermath of this, sends Chloe into a spiral, and uncovers secrets that no one knew were there.
‘THE BETTER SISTER’: A DARK MYSTERY FROM PRIME VIDEO. Review of the #JessicaBiel led drama from #PrimeVideo. #TheBetterSister Share on XBased on a novel, of the same name, which I haven’t read, The Better Sister is one of those cerebral dramas that is dark and makes the viewer question anything and everything. It’s also a drama that I saw being ordered by Prime Video quite some time ago so it’s one I’ve seen in headlines for a long time now. From casting to starting to film, it feels as though the debut should have been here before now.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘SIRENS’: A GLOSSY DRAMA ABOUT FACADES AND OBSESSION
This is a production that immediately tosses us into the drama. Within the first five minutes, we see a blood-soaked heroine and body. It then swaps back from past to present to then unveil all. Led by two popular stars which was part of this (presumably) limited series appeal, this is also a drama that may make the viewer a little uncomfortable. It’s not happy or “light,” which is my preference these days. So in that way, I have to say, I didn’t really “like” this show. Still, I can recognize that it’s a solid production with a good cast, too. Seeing Jessica Biel in something again is fun simply because it’s been a long time since I’ve seen her feature in anything. Elizabeth Banks is someone I normally see do comedy, so watching her in a deeply emotional and complex role is interesting.
Though it is different, many aspects of this reminds me of the latest Netflix drop, Sirens. I think it’s the sister plot. The mystery isn’t overly deep, but is certainly compelling in that we want to keep watching to find the answers.
Stream exclusively on Prime Video; all eight episodes now streaming.

Content: there is a lot of the F-word and other more minor (lots of shit uses too) profanity, too. There may possibly be a sex scene or two (based on the preview of the season where we see a woman in lingerie in a scene); one couple is a same sex union (if that bothers you) and another mentions a same sex spouse. A woman uses sex to dull what she feels or to avoid her life (we see them having sex in various positions and see him nude from the back); another scene shows a woman removing her dress and straddling a man (she undoes his belt/pants and we assume they then have sex). A character recounts being a minor and having to scream and fight off a drunk adult crawling into their bed. Characters use drugs, and we see them smoking and/or popping pills. The show is TV-14 (according to its Prime Video page), but I’d give it a TV-MA rating. Note; this content only reflects episodes one – six.
