‘PATIENCE’ PBS MASTERPIECE REVIEW: A NEW CRIME SOLVING DUO MAKES DEBUT
A brand new title for the PBS Masterpiece library, Patience is a remake of a foreign language series, and this one brings with it a familiar face.
Patience PBS Masterpiece (2025) TV Review
Order and quiet are two things young Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis) values. She has a routine and she faithfully keeps to it no matter what comes. She sees patterns, and uses these skills to her advantage while working in the police records department. Totally opposite of her is Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser), a woman who is good at her job; she knows how to find the answers, but when it comes to a private life, well, there Bea’s rather chaotic.
Bea is good at seeing people for what they can offer and bring to the table. She spots a special talent and person in Patience, which inspires her to recruit Patience to work with the police and be a part of Bea’s team…

‘PATIENCE’ PBS MASTERPIECE REVIEW: A NEW CRIME SOLVING DUO MAKES DEBUT. Review of the new #MasterpiecePBS show with Laura Fraser. #PatiencePBS Share on X
Reviewing the latest (and always hopefully greatest) from PBS Masterpiece always makes me excited. There are some I don’t seem to have an interest in, but many I do enjoy. Discovering this drama is no different. I had high hopes for it most especially after seeing that Laura Fraser would lead. She is, of course, from the hilarious comedy A Knight’s Tale. So seeing her in something drastically different is nice. She plays the role really well though and I liked seeing her again. Plus, newcomer Purvis does a great job with Patience, and in some ways, even if not literally, she represents someone we can relate to.
This season debut of the Patience PBS Masterpiece show is a part one story, so part two will drop next week on its Sunday night timeslot. What will come in next week’s episode remains to be seen, but I know this episode did pique my curiosity. I’m even more interested in finishing (at a minimum though I see myself watching beyond this) this two part premiere because of what may come between Patience and Bea as they learn to work together.
The show reminds me of a Sherlock Holmes-esque character which is quite appropriate given the jokes about Sherlock. Not one of those shows we can perhaps categorize as being cozy, Patience is still worth experiencing. It’s a good series that shows promise, presenting a character we really do want to succeed. As a bonus there seems to be the start of some good mysteries. Additionally, this episode ends in a way that begs we return, and I know I will.
