SUMMER BUCKET LIST – LET’S HAVE A LITTLE FUN!
Summertime may have unofficially been here for over a month now, but officially, it just began this past week. As a result, we’re having a bit of fun and putting together a little summer bucket list. A list that is meant solely for fun and no other purpose, which is something that seems to beg an add-on to the post adding because the Internet is, well… it’s crazy. So yes, this list is for fun and meant for that purpose only. So, let’s have some fun.
APPLE TV+ REVIEW | ‘SMOKE’ APPLE TV+ REVIEW: AN INTENSE MYSTERY MAKES USE OF A GOOD CAST
Summertime is for outdoor fun and getting that sun kissed glow, ice cream on long days and pool hangs, and as a result, it feels like the ideal time of year to actually do things rather than sit in front of a screen or to still, even if we are outdoors, bury our nose in a screen. Let’s dive in and look at some fun and silly things we can do with a summer bucket list.
SUMMER BUCKET LIST
DISCOVER (and ENJOY) an ACTIVITY without SCREENS
Doing anything that doesn’t require screens like a movie theater or going somewhere and sitting on our phone is high on any list I make. We basically carry a tiny computer with us everywhere, and oddly, this seems to be pulling us down as humans and certainly is destroying connection. This should probably always have importance on any list like this. Why? Well because I think humans seem to be obsessed with their phones and they don’t really look up and experience life.
DISCVOVER READING aka READ a NEW BOOK
Discover a really good book! Pick up something that has a real summertime feel or look. There are so many good ones on the shelf.

DRIVE to the CITY
If you live out in the country or somewhere that is more rural, driving into the city can make a fun day. I love the idea of going to a big city as someone who doesn’t live in one. Visiting one and finding a street with stores or even a place just outside the city that has lots of shops sounds fun. I like the idea of exploring and making new discoveries. If you’re reality is the opposite and you live in the city, a drive to the country may sound ideal.
FIND a QUIET SPOT by the WATER and be STILL
If you enjoy stillness and quiet, find a tranquil and pretty spot, and just enjoy the view and time. Sometimes we need some stillness even if culture loves the “hustle,” being quiet and enjoying quiet, well, that can be freeing.
GET out of the COMFORT ZONE
We all have one. For some of us it’s extreme, and others, less so. But challenge yourself to do one thing that’s a little bit outside that zone. For me, one small thing would be anything athletic, even something as small and simple as bowling.
GO EXPLORING – take a WALK
Explore somewhere you’ve never been, even if it’s just to take a walk. Challenge yourself to take a walk daily or 3x a week. Whatever the idea, try to make it fun with an audio book or exploring the place where you’re walking.

PLAN an OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT
I’m 99.9% sure it’s relatively easy to set up and plan an outdoor movie night. You can shop places like Amazon for a kit that provides the things you need (relatively inexpensively) or you can search how to ‘DIY an outdoor movie night’ for the set up and “how to” of doing this. Those warm summer days outside don’t have to end at night! Just set up a screen and play your favorites – and don’t forget the popcorn!
PLAY a BOARD GAME
I’ve been playing board (or card) games again twice a week for the last year or better. I used to play them all the time as kids, and it’s been such fun to rediscover actual games. Two of my favorites are Scrabble and the classic, Clue. If it’s a nice night, set up the games outside – and make sure to have some fruit or your favorite snack on hand!

SPEND a DAY PLAYING TOURIST
Drive to a place that is perhaps not far from you or even your hometown and play tourist… just for fun. Sometimes the place we know is also the place we don’t really see. Pretend to be a tourist for a day and discover some of the things you maybe miss in the day-to-day.
TAKE a BIKE RIDE
One of the ways you can get around if you play tourist, at least in some places, is to rent a bike and get around the place you’re exploring. Just taking a bike ride on your bike path or down your country road may also be a new thing to enjoy during the summer months.

TAKE OLD-FASHIONED PHOTOS
Go somewhere, your favorite spot or some pace new, and spend the day or afternoon taking photos with a real camera. Leave the phone in the car and just… explore. See if you can find a new way of “seeing” things.
TRY BOWLING or MINI GOLF or PICKLEBALL
This year I went bowling for the first time – ever! Yes, I know, that’s probably not a proud thing to admit (or maybe it is in an era when bowling is an “old” activity… but then nostalgia is cool again, so… I’m not sure where this leaves me). Probably not something I should admit, but I went for the third time this last week and in an I-am-not-being-modest confession, you guys, I am getting worse! I was bad, but not terrible my first time and this third time? Well, let’s just say the not hitting a pin was a familiar sight this time. I’d still like to try pickleball, but I know I’d epically fail.
