‘CATCH OF THE DAY’: SUMMER’S END REUNION ROMANCE FROM HALLMARK
The final (of only two) summer-y romances from Hallmark, Catch of the Day pairs a TV show favorite and a Hallmark leading man who we’ll all recognize.

Working towards an important promotion while living in New York is in her grasp when suddenly, Sophie (Emilie Ullerup) decides to return home. She does this to help her family’s restaurant which is suffering serious setbacks. A dining experience that specializes in seafood, Sophie’s return and recipes seem to be the ideal boost the place needs. What she doesn’t anticipate is all of the memories she encounters while home.
One of these memories is in the form of Cam (Michael Rady), a former crush who is just as crush worthy as ever! As the town helps to save the family restaurant, Sophie gets caught up in the past and wonders if her future has a place in that.

Watching Catch of the Day feels kind of bittersweet because it indicates yet another step towards winter and the 24/7 barrage of Christmas films. On the plus side, it’s a lovely slice of summer with its look and the seafood dishes it serves up. The story, like anything else, is a familiar trope and plays up the reunion love story. It’s a nice trope that fits well with this character and story.
I really enjoyed this one. It has coastal scenery, and I love seeing a new pairing in Michael Rady and Emilie Ullerup. The first kiss thing is also sweet and oddly poignant. Plus fans of Chesapeake Shores will enjoy seeing Ullerup return to another of her familiar and cheerful characters. So, in a repeat of what can be said of 99% of movies in the library of Hallmark, Catch of the Day is good fun and yes, it’s cute, too.
