‘RANDOM ENCOUNTERS’: FIND ROMANCE FILM STREAMING FOR FREE
A movie about chance encounters and featuring an early role for two stars with some name recognition now, Random Encounters is a film that you see floating around on free streamers everywhere.

Falling into the struggling actress career is a fate Laura (Abby Wathen) is familiar with. She lives with Mindy (Meghan Markle), the roommate who is her opposite in every way. While she goes out on dates weekly, Laura is perpetually single (and wants an actual relationship) and has another fail when she loses a toothpaste commercial. Then there is Kevin (Michael Rady).
A screenplay writer, Kevin is trying to pitch his screenplay and find the right person to pick it up. Then, during his preparation for a meeting, hot coffee is spilled all over him which introduces him to Laura. It’s a brief encounter that has an impact on both, but the question is, will they meet again?

The production is low quality and some of the cues or the “staging” of the film seem odd or as if it could use polish. It’s also quite funny to me that platforms like Prime Video (and trailer art!) feature Meghan Markle prominently on the art when she isn’t the lead character. That said, I do think she does a good job in her best friend role (which is an important one) and it’s so fun to see Michael Rady in his pre-Hallmark era. In a bit of trivia, originally, this film was meant for Shantel VanSanten who left the role over character disagreements; something that is a bit of fun and interesting fact to know about a film.
The film has a nice premise (albeit silly, too) and is certainly the kind of story we love to cheer on (a would be romance that fate seems to be deciding), the storytelling just isn’t the smoothest. Still if you like movies that are simple and easy to watch, well then, Random Encounters might be your cup of tea. If you’re into “background noise” while working on a project, this is one of those titles ideal for that.

Content: there is quite a bit of innuendo. Remarks about “doing someone” or having weekly sleepovers with multiple people; we see someone bring home random guys more than once. We see a couple (who is supposedly on a “break”) in bed together post sex. As part of a funny montage, we see someone meet multiple guys, one of whom is a woman who asks if someone wants to “try.” A woman undresses a man unbuttoning his shirt and removing his pants before the scene has him redress. The rating would be PG-13.
